Rear Tire Valave adapter

Post by Van Voyager »

I can barely get a air chuck on my rear tire valve because of limited clearance between the valve tip and the wheel hub. I can't believe it came from the factory like that - i.e. without a 90 (or slightly more) degree bend in the valve (I suspect it didn't come that way). I'll fix it with a new 90 degree valve next time I put a tire on but since the PO just put brand new tires on, it could be a while.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a suitable 90 degree adapter that I can screw on in the meantime?

A simple search for "Tire valve adapter, 90 degree" yields a LOT of options on Amazon. I would pick one with a tighter bend radius to get better clearance.

Ya, did a search and found several options but my clearance is so limited it's not clear if any of them will fit. In any case, they're relatively cheap so I ordered a couple and will see if anything works.

Finally received my Chinesium adapters. Quality appears to be good and there's enough clearance to install. Not 100% confident about their ability to hold air however. I'll wait for the bike to go into hibernation for the winter before installing then checking the pressure regularly to see if they're holding up.

... I tried this on the front, wrench only had a slight offset valve and with the
dual rotors, it's worse than useless.. you can't check your pressure without
loosing air... and so you have no idea how much air you had!!! I hafta
use a pressure valve and fill it to check it.... yeah, new tire.... sigh...
NEXT time.... sigh... sigh... (double sigh...GBG)

... the narrower tire leaves very little room on the side... any protrusion
will clip the brake housing.....

I don't have any problem with front as I can get a gauge or chuck in there no problem. Can't get either one the rear without serious yanking on the valve. The adapters I picked up are (without measuring) about 135 degrees (or 45's) deepening or the reference so they actual point towards the tire of the rim which provide pretty good access.

The look like this:

I have 90s on both front and back. Work great. Easy to air up and check. Any 90 will work in the rear. Front 90 has to be offset by 45 deg back to clear brake rotor. But otherwise work great.

Just updating this.....

The adapter broke the first time I used it. I had a second one which I was able to use gingerly and get air in the tire. With my recent tire change I installed a 90 degree valve so the adapter is no longer required.
