Total accumulated miles on the Voyager XII

Post by ghostler »

It has been 12 years since the last Voyager XII was produced, ending production in 2003. Yet there are many Voyagers still on the road. Some of us have acquired a Voyager more recently, having discovered what an excellent tourer it is. Others have kept it as a second backup bike as it aged, sold it, wrecked it, broke it, got stolen and never recovered or unrestorable, wore it out, bought another to replace it, and etc. So, perhaps you could indicate how many miles you have on yours or did have on yours, may be with a little story you might want to share about it, or comments on why you like it so much, why you moved on and etc. If you had more than one, add up the mileage of all and indicate that totaled mileage. You may explain your results by commenting.

Inquiring minds want to know. :wnk2:

I have 56,456 miles on my 1988 Voyager. I've had it 5 years. I had a 1986 Honda Goldwing before the Voyager. I personally think the Voyager is superior to the Goldwing . First of all you sit down into the bike on the Voyager; and you sit higher on the Goldwing. Secondly; the Voyager gets much better gas mileage than the Goldwing. Thirdly; I don't like the way the handlebars are set up on the Goldwing and they are adjustable on the Voyager. I also like all of the storage on the Voyager. I also like the way the Voyager handles. I think a lot of people get caught up in the "hype" of the Goldwing. Others don't know that Kawasaki made a touring bike. (So did Suzuki--Cavalcade). Kawasaki basically kept the same bike, the same design and everything except the color from 1986 to 2003. That says something in itself.

I had 300,000+ mi. in 25yrs on XII's,. Had a 86 & 97 & 2002, All had over 125,00 mi when I sold them. Been on a GL1800 for 18mo. now and I could do a comparison. But in short: Wing is a good M/C but, If they still made the XII, I would prefer it before the wing for many reasons. My 2002 XII was perfect but could not pass up the deal I got on the used wing at a Harly dealership. XII was the best kept secret in motorcycling. I think if they came back out again right now it would fill a big gap in the M/C market. V twins just do not get it for a lot of riders that have driven multi cylinders. Ride safe..

I put 68k on my 90, almost 100k on my 95, and about 50k on my 99 before it was totaled in a deer collision in 2006. Since then I've put 220k on a pair of BMW R1200RTs.

I'm up to 40K on the 03 XII. Its the first one for me. (I'm the third owner and keeping it.) I avg 4k-5k a year, the miles don't rack up very fast as I share with 2 other bikes and the cars. My 05 C10 gets the bulk as a commuter bike.

I have a working theory that if I own a lot of vehicles then they don't wear out as fast and need replaced less often thereby saving $$... vs owning one and needing replaced every 3 years! The jury has been out for 5-10 years and I'm thinking I need replacing every 3 years. :hmm:
Wait'in for my ride!

I have 35k on my 90. It's my first one and love it. I bought it in September of 2014 as a wedding anniversary gift to myself. Went up to buy a new headlight for my 86 Honda Manga 750 and came home with the Voyager. Hey, the headlight worked. The best part is that now my wife will actually ask to go for a ride on a nice weekend. After two back surgeries she could not take the stiff ride of the Honda and wouldn't go. I've always dreamed of owning a Gold Wing and I did test ride one the same day as the xii. The choice was clear to me by the way each handled and fit my frame. One never knows what the future holds but at the moment, I have no plans for replacing this bike any time soon.

Agreed, I am grateful to have a Goldwing class motorcycle within my budget that has large storage capacity, tow hitch for towing a trailer and with progressive spring fronts and after market air shock backs has a reasonably smooth ride over rough rural roads.

Recent installation of progressive fronts made a huge difference in ride comfort. I rode a friend's 2012 Yamaha V-Star 1300 tourer, as nice a bike as it was, it's ride was a bit bumpier.

So far I'm managing 6k to 7k miles per year. 140 more miles, I'll be able to recast my vote in the 50k miles bracket. Bike should last me easily another 5+ years. :hpdc:

75 whole miles in one day!! That's what I got on my new to me 2002 XII. The bike has just over 44,000 on it. I just recently purchased it and since I'm an OTR trucker my days to ride at the end of the season were scarce. West Michigan is home. The day was Christmas eve day. Trust me I'm going to put many more on, God and dispatcher willing. To be able to go for my first decent ride on my new bike on Christmas eve......well that in itself was a present!!

Thanksgiving 2011 = approx 16k (gotta find my records, i think it was actually less).
New Years day 2016 = 63500 miles + 900miles from a trip home without odometer sender
= 64400 - 16000 = 48400 miles in 4 years + 1 month. Now have run thru 2 sets of E3's and now trying the Avon Cobras. :corn:

My 03 is a pretty low mileage unit. I bought it 8 years ago with only 26500 km on it. It has 73000 km on it now. At this rate I probably only have another 25 years left in it. :-D
