Mr.Jensee,my winters service this past season included new fork seals.
Mine were not leaking yet,but with 72,000 miles and 18 years old,I thought I would do it to prevent a surprise on a trip :cry2:
I had changed cracked dust seals earlier and was surprised how bad the tops of the oil seals looked. :thk:

I agree. It is interesting that the dust seals on my machine, which is the same age has good seals while this bike has such bad ones. I know the oil seals have to be bad considering how much dirt got past the dust seals. I wish BikeBandit wouldn't take so long to ship parts. So far this year they haven't sent me anything i ordered. I should have chosen Ebay. Lots cheaper and they ship almost next day. Lesson to the wise.

Well it IS winter and I am doing some serious servicing, it just isn't on MY motorcycle. :dm:

Oh they shipped alright but I didn't get the items I ordered. I ordered fairing clips to screw my screws into. Got some plastic round nuts instead. Ordered some fairing screws and got tiny sheet metal screws instead. I just hope I get my fork seals and dust seals. Fingers crossed.

FYI for those of you intending on changing out the fork seals on your Voyager XII. Especially those who intend to use a piece of PVC pipe to tap down the seals. I discovered that a 1-1/2" PVC though it looks like it will work and appears to be the same inside diameter as the Voyager outside fork tube, doesn't work. I am going to have recut and find a way to hone out that piece of pipe today if I want to get these forks done. The problems seem to never end. :dm:

After fretting with it for 2 days I took the forks to the Kawasaki Dealership and they put the seals in in about 10 min. But now the deed is done.

The fork seals are in. Now a new problem has arisen. The fan wont come on and probably the temp sensor is bad. The gauge wont show any temp. Another tear down is in order.

Radiator is removed. at the radiator repair shop to be pressure tested for leaks. Fan works fine. checking now on the sensors that run it. Will find and examine the sensor that activates the gauge.

Radiator is back from the repair shop. No leaks but it was completely plugged up with gunk. Charlie probably never changed his coolant in all those years. This I am betting is the reason the temp gauge never rose and the fan never came on. The coolant was never circulating. As soon as the weather allows we will be reinstalling the radiator, putting the front tire and fender back on and it should be (fingers crossed) ready for sale. :woohoo:

Ok this morning I put the Charlie Voyager back together and filled the system with coolant. Ran it for quite a while but never saw any change in the temp. gauge. Wondering now if is the temp sensor. Figures it is not going to be easy to get to. Still have to tighten up some bolts on the triple tree. I will be so glad when this bike is gone.

... didn't I see something about a bad ground causing the temp gauge not to work?

The Charlie Oneal Voyager is finished and ready for sale. Asking $2300 for it but will entertain any offers. It is a smooth running bike. It has some minor rust issues but easily fixed without costing much. Thanks for everyone's interest.
