I will give tapping and draining a try but there is no way to get the float bowls off while it is on the machine.

This bike does have original type fuel pump?? Have had that issue with car electric fuel pump that runs a higher pressure than the Voyager used. Just a thought.

I spoke with Carl today, I am sure he is getting tired of hearing from me. He said he may not have closed the drain screws on the carbs when he set them. Duh. Maybe I should have checked that first eh? Anyhow, today I picked up replacement vacuum line, an extra long set of needle nose pliers, some fuel line clamps and some hook and loop tools to pull the springs into place. Tomorrow I will get busy and see if the drains are the problem and go from there. Oh and yes the fuel pump works and the filter is brand new.

Good news!! The problem with the new carbs is over. It's drains on the bottoms were still open. Closed them and no more gas leaks and she starts. She is running a little rough but I have yet to reinstall the coolant overflow and reconnect all the vacuum lines. Today I purchased new lines and clips so tomorrow I will put them on, compare everything to my bike for reference, then move on to opening the fairing and repairing the wiring for the fog lamps and installing a new relay and switch. At that time I will replace the windshield with my old one then do a test ride. I figure another week and the Charlie bike will be ready to be sold!

If everything goes well I should be done with the bike in a week or so. Next I need to open the fairing, wire up and complete the fog lamp installation Charlie started. Clean up some wiring, finish installing new handlebar levers and radio controls. Before closing it up I will replace the old windshield with my old one which is still good. Then she will be put up for sale. I am thinking EBAY but I am open to doing some local sales papers as well. I don't think after all the work that 2 grand would be too much. The tires are good E3s, paint is still pretty good and should clean up well. I will try to post a video to YouTube when done and show it running.

As I said earlier, Charlie's Voyager is up and running. Actually it idles better than my bike does and needs almost no choke to start. Sunday I worked on setting the idle, got under the left fairing and found a sizable rat's nest. a number of wires have been chewed through so I cut and spliced in new wiring. I had to cut off the screw that holds the fairing on under the headlight. Replaced the radio controls, replaced the blown 1 amp. glass fuse behind the headlight but it still wont show the time when off and wont hold a station when on. Anybody have a clue why I could use the help. Changed out the rear radio controls as well. Checked on the reason the fog lamps aren't working. Using the same gauge wire i tested one light on the battery, the wire heated up so hot it burnt my finger. The light came on but I figure it is drawing too much current for the size wiring used. I ordered a set of Cree LED lights like I have on mine to replace them. Also replacing the relay which I think is frozen. Monday I am planning on replacing the clutch and brake levers, draining and replacing the anti-freeze. Then tightening the steering stem. Rode her around the block last night and she was squirrely to say the least and I never got out of second gear. Well got to go. Have a date with a dialysis machine at 6 this morning. Fun Fun. :rolling:

Yesterday was a good warm day. I got a lot of things done on Charlie's bike. Replaced the handlebar levers, wired up the LED lights, installed refurbished speaker grills and tightened up the steering stem. It will be raining the next 3 days so as soon as I get a nice day I am going to road test it and fill it up with gas. I am glad this is nearly at an end. All I want is another 70 degree day so I can paint the engines on both bikes and get his up for sale. Whoever gets it will not be sorry. It is a nice bike. I wish I could keep it but there is no room in the garage for 2 Voyagers and my wife would like the space back for her SUV.

Charlie's bike is finished. I installed new LED lights like mine because the old ones drew too much current. There is still some rust to contend with. Some things like latches may need replacing because the chrome is peeling. Everything works. It starts up without even applying the choke. Idles smooth. Pictures of the finished bike are here. As you can see by the stickers Charlie was proud of belonging to the AVA. If anyone is interested in purchase please email me. Asking $2300 but will accept any reasonable offer. Thanks for the interest.

being detailed 1.jpg
I rode Charlie's bike to Sunset (about 40 miles) so It could be detailed by a friend. The bike runs like a jet! Carl did an amazing job on the carbs. It runs and handles wonderfully. Now it has me thinking of sending my carbs off to Carl. On second thought do I want the pain and agony of getting those suckers back on? I will have to think about that one. My bike still runs good. Anyway my detailer friend may already have a buyer for Charlie's bike but has already fallen in love with it.

I knew my luck had to change and it did. I got called by my detailer. Someone wanted to see the bike in action. Well the engine cut out a couple of times which I could not reproduce. However 2 things became apparent, the temp gauge doesn't work, probably the sensor, and one fork is leaking at the dust seal like a gusher. So now I will have to replace both fork seals and dust seals because the dust seals are cracked. Stay tuned.

Get and try a Seal-Mate before ordering new seals. You might not believe how easy it works, and your wallet will certainly be glad.

Neal I have a sealmate and started to use it but oil was gushing out of the right one. The dust seals are cracked all around. Nothing but new seals are going to work. My friend and I are going to change them out when they come in. Should take about a week to get the seals in.
