engine paint

Post by Gator Mike »

Going to tear down and paint my wife's first bike a 1969 Honda CM91. The body color is black however I need a suggestion as to what type paint to use on the engine. It is the same silver type that most Asian bikes have and it obviously needs to be heat resistant. Thanks..........Gator Mike

Mike your best bet is to visit a auto paint store, there may be one in Jennings, if not Lake Charles for sure. These guys are experts in paints. I have used them in the past and they know their stuff. Even if you don't buy from them they can point you in the right direction. Often they have rattle can paints the right color you need. I found one in Lake Charles on the net: Diamond Paint and Supply. Phone 337-882-9893.

Hey did you get your fork seal problem fixed?

Found this on the net. Do you have an Oreilys AutoParts store near you? http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0171

Thanks for the ideas Michael. I've got an Orielys in Jennings and will give it a shot. I did get the fork seals fixed. Had to change them out again. Didn't see any thing wrong with the old ones but I must have screwed up the original installation somehow because this pair is fine.
By the way yesterday I went to Baton Rouge and rode with the Patriot Guard for one of the Police officers that was slain. One of the most awesome rides I've been on. People lined up along the route for 30 miles. Must have been 200 bikes and miles of police vehicles. There were police from every state.

I second the O'Reilly's suggestion. They guy who did the restoration on my new Spectre went to them several times to get the exact color just right on the paint he chose for the engine. They do have engine-specific paint are willing to work with you to adjust the color until you are happy.
Here's the results of their paint on my engine after about 5500 miles since restoration.

Yesterday I resorted to painting some badly rusted parts like my Kuryakin highway pegs with chrome paint. I love Louisiana for all the wrong reasons but at times I wished I lived in Arizona. This humidity is destroying my beloved Voyager as it sits in the garage. :gmad:
