I rode from the rally in Ashville to Miami, then back to Texas, all the roads were nice in Fl, not like some other states. Watch the drivers, they don't know what stop sign are.

The Blue line goes threw a National Forest ,and that's got to be a good thing. However ,it appears to be interstate and that takes all the fun out of it.
Take the least direct route and enjoy the ride.

I selected "avoid interstates" so those are state roads. Maybe I will just take the blue line one direction and the middle line the other.

I used to drive quite abit out of Fort Walton Beach to Tampa and Patrick AFB. I agree with Carl as to the nicest route. The Freeway can be faster sometimes, but other times it can be so bunched up as to be slower (75 and 95).
One thing we did a couple of times was to take the 98 over to Perry where you connect with 27. A much slower route, but far more interesting.
I might mention (this was over 8 years ago) Flagler Beach and St Augustine as destinations to check out. We did an interesting day tour of St Augustine that we both enjoyed after staying at the Topaz "Hotel" in Flagler Beach. The hotel part was an old mansion, so the rooms "were" set up in old style and just interesting. That was then, I have no idea now.
Enjoy your trip. I hope to travel through there again this summer (we still own a rental on the southside of I10 up in Crestview-would like to sell it next spring/summer).

Was just in Palatka yesterday, Musselwhites (good place for lunch) Corky Bells just around the corner is even better. Depending on how much time you want to spend. There is a lot of old Fl along the east west routes. 40 is a 2 lane state rd with passing lanes about every 10 miles. Not much to see on it but trees. Any road you want to pick with a CR in front of the number are also good scenic roads. I live just south of Ocala & Carl lives just North of Daytona, so if you get in trouble Carl has bail money,LOL!! Avoid the larger cities to much traffic. Been up here 2yrs and have not been on all the roads yet and ride all day 3 days a week + Just was on some new ones yesterday. Give a holler if you need anything. Ride safe & have agreat trip!!
