Can't figure it out

Post by ADenney »

I have had my 84 1300 for two years now and love it, but now I have a problem that I can't figure out. I started having problem with it losing power on take offs and missing out. At first I thought that I had gotten some bad gas, but the problem has gotten worse. I added some additive to try and clean up the fuel until I refueled, the used high octane gas, thinking it would fix the problem. It seemed like the problem was taken care of at first. I rode over 125 miles and used less than 1/2 tank of fuel one day then the next used 1/2 of a tank riding 20 miles the next, with it having no power at all. I took it to a mechanic that put it on a computor to test it and it stated that there wasn't anything wrong. He then changed the plugs and brought it back to me. Now when I start it, it will idle fine, but when I give it gas, it cuts out and dies. I am just wondering if anyone can give me any ideas what the problem can be? Around the area I live, there isn't very many mechanics that work on fuel injected bikes.

Don't take this to the bank ,but it sounds like you may have a bad coil.
It will still run smooth because you have 4 cylinders firing, but absolutely no power.

I had a similar problem on my XII and it turned out to be a broken spark plug cap. However, when the spark plugs were changed your mechanic should have noticed if that was the problem.....(operative word being "should"....)

Did your mechanic check the fuel filter?
That would also cause a severe lack of power.

Found out today that after the mechanic took it off of the computor,he never started it. He just changed the plugs and brought it back. One would think he would have started it! Also, where is a good place to get parts for the older bikes? The dealer 40 miles from me cant get older parts.

I just joined this forum today, and just picked up my second Voyager 1300 this week. It was missing parts and had broken ones, and I have had great luck with used parts on eBay by typing in "Kawasaki Voyager 1300". One seller in Oregon seems to have several bike he is parting out and has just about anything you might want for the 1300. He is a salvage dealer. There are several over there. Just be sure to look at their pics REAL GOOD to see any defects.
