Looking for final drive info on ANY shaft drive Honda

Post by trikebldr »

Am looking for the final drive ratio on any Honda 4-cyclinder bike. Or, at least the tooth count on the ring and the pinion. Not interested in the overall ratio. just in the final drive housing. It doesn't matter what year.

Thanks!

My research has turned up that the GL1000 had a 3.44 ratio, the 1200 &1500's had a 2.833, and the 1800's have a 3.09 or 3.10. Anybody able to verify this info before I shell out any cash for a 2.833, it's wheel, driveshaft and swingarm? This all came from various forums, so who knows how accurate the info may be.

I can't help much with ratios but remember the 1300 has a much smaller rear tire than most big touring bikes,so make sure you will have enough clearance. :hmm:

The ZN1300 has the 16" rim, and the KZ1300 has the 17" rim, so if the profile size of a tire is the same for both wheels, then the KZ wheel will give you a slightly larger tire, Tony, which is what you are looking for, too. There is plenty of room under the ZN's fender to clear another 1/2" of radius with the KZ's 17" wheel. A couple of Wing rear wheels were 17", but most were 16", and one Aspencade 1200 even had a 15".

My goal is to come up with a final drive/wheel combo that will give the equivalent to a sixth gear so we don't keep stabbing that shifter looking for one! WITH my sidecar attached I never had that problem, but without it I also kept trying to shift up again.

Thanks, Tony! That's pretty cool! It told me that the front and rear tires are supposed to be the same diameter.
