Handlebar Weight Screws - Thread-locker

Post by Van Voyager »

Decided to put the original handlebar weights back on my 86 ZN1300. The OEM screws appear to have Red Loctite (or some kind of thread-locker) on them and I've read some horror stories about removing those screws once they're installed. I'm considering 'wheeling' the thread-locker off the screws - maybe use some purple thread-locker - just wondering what other folks have done.

I would be more inclined to use anti seize than thread lock.
You will probably never take them off again though

Thanks ME.

The weights will stay on but they'd have to come off if I swap grips (if I were to ever find a set that fits) or need to take other bits off the bars.

I'm also inclined to use anti-seize. Having said that, I had the weights fastened on with some bolts while waiting for the OEM screws to come in and the throttle size kept coming loose. . I'm going to take the thread locker off for now and if things loosen up, I can always put a little dab back on.

I broke off the allen bolts on the bar weights on my 1200. Replaced them with industrial allen screws in Black Steel. I did not use any thread locker or anti seize and they work just fine. The Throttle side I let the bar end spin. The left side is tight up against the grips so it wont.
