Boost Sensor, replacement

From the Z1300 forum on Facebook, I got this advice. It seems that 1984-85 Yamaha XV1000 Virago was using the same boost sensor as our voyager. It has the same number, J9T01971. On eBay you will find them for 20 bucks. Compared to 700 at dealers.

What part is this? Is it an air pressure sensor? In more recent fuel injected Kawasakis, there are two pressure sensors - both the same part - one senses atmospheric pressure while the other one senses manifold pressure via a hose connected to the 'spout' on the sensor (and they look similar to the one in your pictures).

I believe the ZN1300 utilizes only one pressure sensor (ambient air pressure) and since I can't find an air pressure sensor on the parts list or wiring diagram(s), and since the Trouble Shooting Fuel Injection section of the manual suggests replacing the Fuel Injection Control Unit if the diagnostics throw a Pressure Sensor Error Code, I assume the pressure sensor is embedded in the Fuel Injection Control Unit, i.e not a separate part.

Maybe the non-Voyager fuel injected ZG1300 has separate air pressure sensor(s)?

This is the part, it’s under the gas tank. The ZG and the ZN has the same system.

Ahhhhhhh. Still can't find it on the wiring diagram. You're right: replacement price is crazy - something goofy there. Also weird that the manual suggests replacing the FI module if it detects an error from that sensor; I'd hate to see the cost of replacing that.

Great. Thanks for posting. Finally found the sensor on the larger wiring diagram - connection to the igniter was the clue. Sadly, my copy of the wiring diagram is so blurry, it's hard to read.
