200,000 mile Voyager 1700

Post by HMB Don »

well on September 28th, nine years and nine months after I bought my Voyager 1700 I reached the 200,000 miles. It is get these best fuel mileage and not using any oil between oil changes. I changed the oil today and I had gone 9,400 miles since the last oil change. Oh, that oil change was done July 14, 2021.

Wow! That's a lot of riding. I'm at less than 90,000 on my 2010 (bought in 2013 with 2570 miles on the odometer).

My Goodness, Don  . That speaks to the potential longevity of the Voyager. What all have you had to replace in that 200K miles besides tires & More Tires. Did anything major go south on you?

Here it is.
At 33,000 miles I broke the Drive Belt. On a trip, I rode on a gravel road and got a rock in the belt which when I found the rock I removed it. But it had left a hole in the belt. One day at a red light I let the clutch out to fast and put a heavy load on the belt and it snapped. I was able to buy a use belt from Hank43, which only had 1,500 miles of use. That belt lasted until 180,000 miles.

At 88,000 miles I got a new Throttle Body, installed by the Dealer.

I've had two radios replaced both for the same problem, external speakers wouldn't work. Everything worked using the hard wired helmet speakers.

At 180,000 miles, The rear sprocket carrier bearing failed, which loosed the drive belt, which then rubbed a hole in the oil reservoir. Which is just below the counter shaft sprocket. Warranty took care of the bearing, drive belt and oil reservoir.

I've used Amsoil products through out the Voyager. Oil change intervals of 10,000 miles

I had the Kawasaki extended warranty until 12 27 2020. I bought my Voyager 1700 on 12 27 2011.

Good Gravy Don, do you ever stay home?
At 200K that answers my question about buying a used Voyager 1700.
I hope I can get one this year if medical expenses don't get in the way again.
I've been looking at the HD Ultra but $30K is just ridiculous. Indians aren't any better.
But the Voyager looks as good as the Ultra and with a better warranty to boot.
Speaking of which, how did you get a (what looks like) a 10 year warranty?
Any-Who, I'm duly impressed with you & your Voyager. Stay safe out there.
