1999 Voyager XII Air Cleaner Question

Post by BOBEYE22 »

I was wondering a good place to purchase a new air cleaner element. My bike sat quite awhile and a mouse got at the air filter. Also the foam around the outside is deteriorating and sucking into the carbs.

Look in the Tech section under "dollar for dollar".

You'll see a post about using a Camaro filter, I think, using the frame of the stock Voyager XII filter. This is what I did, with a K&N filter. The K&N filter listed for the Voyager XII no longer exists, so I used one for whatever it was they say, I forget. Used Permatex to seal the gaps, and used a couple of layers of the rubber that came with the filter to build up the top to correct for the missing air filter hold-downs.

I ordered 1 through Partshark just last night. Got an email today saying it was on a national backorder and has been discontinued by Kawasaki.

It is disappointing.

I should have an oil bath off an old Case DC if you think that could be crammed in there....

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C ... UTF8&psc=1 is the K&N filter I bought off Amazon. YIKES the price has gone up by thirty bucks since I bought it a bit over a year ago. Holy smokes I installed in on 3/2/22, and have put 25000 miles on her since then, without going on a long trip, just commuting and occasional club rides. Wow.

The K&N filter is for an '85-'92 Camaro, and fits inside the plastic portion of the stock air filter element. Just pull all the paper out. I didn't have to do any trimming, and I filled in the gaps around the element with black RTV. The filter hold-downs have been missing the whole time I've had Gertrude, so I used the rubber that came with the filter to fashion spacers to hold the element down.

If the foam rubber around your existing element is toast, you can use stick-on weatherstripping foam tape from Home Depot in the appropriate size.
