Tires

Post by Conrad »

Hi all,
So I realize this may be opening a can of worms on par with proper 2 stroke premixes, but new tires are on the off season to-do list for this winter.
As of right now i'm leaning towards the shinko 777's.
Dennis kirk has them in stock in the correct sizes, reasonable price, plus i can get whitewalls :-D
Not too concerned about tire life, if i get a few seasons I'll be happy, and I'm not exactly a hyper-miler.

Anybody use these and care to chime in for/against?

Thanks!

A quick search on "777" gave two pages of hits.

I recently put a Shinko 777HD on the rear of Gertrude and so far I love it. Much better than the Dunlop Elite 4 (I think that was a defective tire, or the "mechanic" who installed it was an idiot, or both - the one before that was wonderful).

I like Shinko as a brand. I've been running the Shinko 230 Tour Masters on my 750 Vulcan for years now and have nothing but praise for them.

I just put a Shinko 777 on my 86's rear, and will probably get around to changing the front also in a couple of weeks. I haven't actually run the 777's yet but I am confident they will perform quite nicely.

How many miles are you guys getting on a rear tire? 2 Rears to one front?

I have a 3,200k +or- mile trip planned in Sept, and im starting on new Conti tour tires. Will i need to plan on buying a rear on the road? 2 Up with luggage
wishing I was riding around the world

I used a Shinko 777HD on the rear of my 1700, it gave me 12,000 miles which included a 5,000 mile trip to the AVA rally last year. I think it's a great tire

Got one at the PO that I'll pick up on Tuesday. Taking the back wheel off tomorrow. (Still pretty ambivalent about the CIII up front.)

Well, almost 200 miles on my new shinkos, couldn't be happier. Bike corners much better, and no more following every little crack in the road 👍

I’m not sure anyone here really rides enough to make use of darkside mileage.

I used to. I rode as few miles last year as I had since I bought it.

That being said, this will be the third year for this Nexen, and it still looks fine. I don't know what the mileage on it is. I already have the next one mounted on a rim ready to go. I read all the hype before I bought one, and I'm not sure any of that came to pass, aside from the longevity....and price.
Price is everything. It's why I'm not on a Goldwing, and it's why I use a car tire. I don't buy into all the other advertised benefits of a car tire. The mileage one can squeeze out of a car tire is just a pleasant extra.

I'd like to try but haven't found any reliable info on what tire would fit my Voyager (86 ZN1300).
