No brake lights with rear brakes only- no trunk light
I could use some advice on finding a gremlin on my 92. I just moved everything over to LED’s and it works amazing, but I do t get any brake lights with the rear brake pedal, front works fine. I pulled the cover off the brake pedal and cleaned the switch, but nothing changed. I pulled out the manual and started chasing the wiring....I opened the trunk and noticed now the trunk light isn’t working........suggestions would be appreciated. Does the wiring for the rear switch run up the right side of the bike?.

Re: No brake lights with rear brakes only- no trunk light
I dumped my trunk, but IIRC the light in it worked fine after switching to LEDs. If you put an LED in the trunk, you might test by replacing it with the original filament bulb. Some XII circuits have reverse polarity; and some of them change polarity (like the CC lights, depending on whether CC is set or not).
Did the rear brake light up before the LED swap? That switch is finicky to adjust. (Note that the brake levers have two switches each, one normally open and the other normally closed.)

This is gone from bad to worse,,, no brake lights now? Do I need to change any relays? I changed the flasher relay to relax it a little.....how would I test the feeds coming/going to test the switches? Thanks

For what it's worth; the 2 red arrows show what happens when one depresses the rear brake lever: the plunger goes INTO the switch body to close the circuit. This is opposite to most rear brake switches.

Put the incandescent bulb back in. If it works, there are two possibilities: the LED is bad, or the polarity is backwards. If the incandescent bulb does not work, it's a deeper issue. Most likely it is a polarity issue. Cheers!

You stated.
." I pulled the cover off the brake pedal and cleaned the switch, "
Those contacts behind the cover are Normally Closed and they are for canceling the cruise control, If your lamps work with the front brake switch then look at Triton 28's picture, that is where you find the rear brake lamp switch. Perhaps the wiring plugs got pulled off or the spring or link is missing or broken. Or the switch is out of adjustment or just bad.
As for testing , Do you own a test light ? Do be aware of polarity, LED's must see the correct positive and negative connections. This is a big issue with the saddle bad wiring and can sometimes be incorrect.
