Saddlebag emblem

Post by Conrad »

This emblem:
Anyone have luck removing and replacing this little bugger? My bike is missing one, and I'm debating buying a beat donor bag for about $30 on ebay with a good emblem. It appears to be held on with glue or 2 sided tape though, and I'm wondering how likely it is to remove from the donor bag and attach to mine successfully....

Buy it. Well worth it and it can be done. I’ve had 2 bikes completely repainted and one bike was completely totaled and rebuilt. I’ve removed all emblems several times. Just take it slow and use common sense.

I superglued mine on 3 1/2 years and 50000 miles ago and it's still there.

A quality heatgun is your friend. I have removed countless stickers/badges and old adhesive from automotive body parts and boats for years with a heatgun successfully. The key is go low (heat) and slow. Do not force the removal. Let the heat soak and release the adhesive slowly!

You can do it! :woohoo:

P.S. I should also mention, when dealing with that badge, don't apply the heat directly to the face of the badge! Get the heat on the inside of the saddlebag so you are attacking the adhesive from the junk (donor) side instead of risking damage to the pretty piece you are trying to preserve!
