Installing Center Stand

Post by glvnthedream »

My machine did not have a center stand when I purchased it. I have since received a stand from ebay but it’s missing some springs. It only has one attached. I also had to order 3 of the bolts.

Any chance of getting someone to snap a pic or two of your center stand under the bike in the stowed and extended positions to help me identify where the springs go? I also still need to find the springs and order.

It also looks like I will need to drop the exhaust to get the mounting bolts in for the stand. Any tips on minimum exhaust removal to complete this task?

Looks like the 2 missing springs attach near the center of the stand, but what do I attach the other side of the spring?

It's been a while, but I'm not sure there are missing springs. IIRC, it bolts up rather obviously.

While it's off the bike, look carefully at the pedal that lowers the stand to the ground (as opposed to the one that jacks the bike up). These trap water inside and rust. I'd try to get some rust inhibitor in there somehow, if not clear off the rust. (Mine was easy because the pedal fell clear off. I welded it back -- with a fair bit of fill-weld. Not MaKa's most sterling engineering.)

Any way you can check u see your machine and snap some pics in the stow position and while on the stand?

No sweat if you can’t. She’s ready for a ride this weekend. The stand will be a nice to have, not a need to.

Thanks brother.

Can't, sorry. Bike is jammed into a wood shed, and I'm recovering from shoulder surgery.

I have to say, getting the stand on was a major PITA. Mostly due to the rusted bolts on the exhaust. One of the heads was ground down and required cutting out.

But, mission accomplished. Still need to get a couple bolts from the hardware store to finish getting the exhaust clamps on.

"Hardware store bolts" generally means cheap, soft metal. Get grade 5 or 8 or so. I recommend stainless steel for exhaust applications, with metal-based anti-seize thread stuff (essential for bolts going into cast aluminum, but handy for everything). These are readily available at most hardware stores these days. Don't over-torque them.
