Ride to Ripley 2010

Great pic's ! Sure do wish I could have been there to meet all of you in person, and to go for a ride with some of the finest looking voyagers that roll the highways. ( I'm talkin about the bikes ) Carl where did you find the time to clean up the shop ? with all the email, phone calls,packing up parts, and working on bikes.

Hi y'all...
After a chilly fogy morning and 8 hours ride I am home... thanks to Carl and family for the hospitality...
was nice to meet you guys and fix my baby Voyager, I'm glad I didn't loose my right hard bag...
The food was very good too...



was hard to keep this guy from the BBQ...:)

Made it back home without incident. Tom and I had a hard time staying alert riding the 45 MPH construction zones on US64. Here are some pics from the weekend.

Some of Car's bikes were moved outside to make room for the food.

There were a lot of discussions and getting to know one another on Saturday.

We took a ride to Fort Pillow. There were 11 Voyagers participating in the ride.




A couple of noteworthy bikes this weekend were the pristine "one owner" 1986.

and the really nice 1989 with just about every "bling" available.



It sure was great seeing familiar faces and meeting new folks this year. Thank you to Carl and Cheryl for the great southern hospitality, food, and great memories.

Jim Houston led a ride over to Fort Pillow State Park. Seemed to know quite a bit about the area.

That super clean '86 that David posted is owned by Corey Taylor. He showed up last year for the 1st Ride to Ripley. Local guy.




The '96-97 owned by his buddy Theo (on the right) was just as clean.

Emily and I enjoyed all the posts and pics. Don't have anything else to add except a few stats: As of 2:00PM on Saturday when we left for a visit to our retirement home town of Hot springs, AR, there were 11 states represented (WI, MI, TN, PA, KS, MO, CA, KT, VA, MS, OH), 20 bikes (18 Voyagers), and 24 attended (plus Carl's family and charles the cook). Looks like about double from last year...stand by for next year's run!

Hello! This is Chris's wife Pam.
I am hijacking his forum ID briefly, to share links to my Walgreens photo account for the photos that I took on the Ride to Ripley weekend. The last photo that I took Saturday night was of David from Alabama. He asked how many have I taken? He was #999. (I know, I need a twelve step program for digital photography.) Scott asked me what I took pictures of and the answer is, "Any thing that moves, and anything that doesn't." Basically, everything that catches my eye.
The first photos are better organized, the blurry/bad shots have been removed. I have only had time to crop and edit some of the photos from Saturday. There will be a lot that doesn't interest anyone except myself: fields, trees, barns, horses, barn cats, signs, commercial buildings, etc.
I tried to get a good, close-up face shot of everyone, but I know that I missed a few people. Sorry.
Thanks, again, to Carl and Cheryl for all of their hospitality. And, to everyone else for being nice folks! I had a great weekend, especially Friday afternoon, sitting by myself and reading, looking out over the horse pasture, and listening to the quiet. Then, I had more fun eating and talking on Saturday. I learned something new at the Fort Pillow Museum. Shebang meant a rustic dwelling, made from various materials, possible origination of the phrase "the whole shebang." (Not exclusive to the camp at Andersonville.)

Prisoners arriving at Andersonville quickly discovered that they lacked many of life's basic necessities. Many were without shelter and constructed crude dwellings known as "shebangs," made from various items including cloth, mud bricks, tree limbs, and brush. One group of prisoners, including a printer from Trenton, New Jersey, constructed a shebang by sewing together "the sleeve and back linings of my blouse...our sugar and coffee bags, and...the flap of Hoffman's knapsack."¹ In some instances, prisoners shared their shebangs with others and cared for those who were sick.
