New Chapter in the North East

Post by chevyman1 »

I am just wanting to see if anyone in the Northeast would be interested in getting a new chapter in the PA,NJ,DE,MD,NY,OH area going.
I would be willing to get one started if I can get enough people interested plus a couple of people that I can rely on to help.
Any input will be appreciated

I dusted off the Sunshine State Voyagers in 2008 and only recently handed over the reins (see separate post on new SSV leadership). It was a challenge but I enjoyed bringing a new AVA chapter on line. I started with an AVA Roster and made lots of e-mail and telephone contacts followed by meetings planned around interesting things to do (pretty easy to do down here in Florida with year round riding wether and large motorcycle venues such as two different Daytona Bike events and other smaller venues). Having a place to meet such as Riders of Kawasaki is very helpful but I just checked and don't see anything listed.

We used to live in New Jersey (we were stationed at McGuire AFB from 1999 to 2002). Im trying to think of the most exciting event in the area worthy of bringing in people. I know you probably don't want to wait until next summer for Laconia and you didn't specifically mention any of the New England states (besides the Bay State Voyagers are still active). What else is interesting in the area? I remember going to Philadelphia once for a rather large support ride (about 12,000 bikes) for a Philadelphia policeman named Daniel Faulkner but I don't know if the have that event any more. Maybe you can arrange a meeting at one of the International Motorcycle shows. It looks like both Washington DC and New York are both coming up.

Whatever you do keep it fun, friendly and interesting. Best of luck to you.

Count me/us in (my wife Beth and I). Obviously were from Altoona (central PA) so it's right in our back yard and were members of the Keystone West Voyagers. I also know that the Ohio-Kentucky Voyagers group recently disbanded also, so I'm sure we could pick up some of those folks as well.
I've entertained the though many times but ever took the initiative, Thanks!

A few years ago Pennsylvania had three AVA chapters in the state. It would be nice to see a chapter revived in that area. Let me know if you need any help or assistance with anything.

I was a member of the Ohio-Kentucky Voyagers, along with Scott and a few others. I would be very interested in joining the chapter if you can get one going. Please keep me posted. One thought comes to mind - maybe contacts coud be made thru the member roster, keeping in mind that some do not have computers but calls could be made. I will help if possible, just shoot me a message.

Hi Everyone. It has been a long time sense I posted on the AVA sight and after the last rally and magazine artical from our past president of the AVA and how they might only be around for 1 more year I wonder the future of the AVA. That being said, I think it is a very good idea to start a chapter. The only way the AVA will last is for more people to get involved. That being said, count me in. I still work everyday and money isn't growing on trees here unless your my ex (lmao) :hmm: I can't travel to much. I am going to post my email and phone number. If anyone want to talk drop me a email or a phone call. stumpf2000@ameritech.net and the phone number is 216-789-3661
Scott, give me a call or send me your address and I will send out those trunk extenders to ya.

It seems that a central meeting place for this group might be in PA. Weekends I think are the best time to get together and meet one another. Probably on a Saturday afternoon.

Okay, I think we have enough people that are interested so at this point I need a good name for our chapter.
Me and Scott in Altoona have been in contact via email and came up with some possibilities let me know what you think or give some ideas.
Central East Coast Voyagers
Mid-Atlantic Voyagers
Mason-Dixon Voyagers
Erie-Atlantic Voyagers
Appellation-Atlantic

Give me some opinions, I need opinions

Also we want to include Va. & Wv. this will be a large Chapter but I think we can make it work.

Considering the areas you plan to represent I would lean towards the Mid-Atlantic Voyagers, the MAV or possible the Mountain Mid Atlantic Voyagers. What ever you choose you surely have a very large area.

Of all options so far "Mid-Atlantic Voyagers" best but I'm still thinking and/or waiting for any other suggestions.

We got two more members (husband and wife team, Milt and Kathy) from New Jersey (edit: I inadvertently said Delaware earlier) who are excited to join in.
 I've asked them to try to think of a name or two to toss around as well.

I've drilled my wife and adult daughters and none can think of anything (serious that is) that was worthy.
I'm surprised that no one else has tossed any ideas into the hat for consideration.
Come on folks, have a voice!

From the outside looking in, the "Mason-Dixon Voyagers" sounded good. The only other thing that popped into my head was "Colonial Voyagers".
