My first bike was a 1977 Yamaha XS400. Great reliable bike but boy was it heavy!
Enjoy your Voyager

Well this is what shes down to right now. Its been fairly warm (mid 40s) the last 3 days so I was able to start working on it. Got the new tires mounted on the wheels, stainless lines and shocks put on.

Cee Bailey windshield will be here Friday.

Between Mike Norris and Carl Leo I think I have every piece of Markland dress-up available minus mirror visors. About half of it needs to be re-chromed so not all will be installed right now.

The next week is going to be cold again so Im not sure how much Ill get done in the near future.

Time for some updates!

I mentioned that I got all the add-on stuff from Mike and Carl. Here's a pic of the box from Mike.

Some of it needs to be re-chromed but that's going to wait until next winter. With what I spent on all my parts the last two weeks and a big canoe trip coming up in May Im pretty much tapped out for spare money. As soon as the roads ice up next winter every piece of chrome is getting redone and all the plastic painted.

Image

I don't have a picture but I got the front fender rail/lights, light bar and a new cruise control box from Carl. Next week I'm getting the dummy tank rail from him.

I also got a brand new upper trunk rail and light from ebay but no pic right now.

Friday was a big day. Not only did the box from Mike show up but this beauty was waiting for me at UPS. Not as exciting but I also got a chunk of aluminum mesh for the radiator.

Image

Even though it was cold today I had a pretty productive afternoon and night. Progressive springs installed and forks reassembled (alone, what a pain),coolant manifold o-rings replaced, radiator hoses replaced, light bar installed, radiator guard covered with aluminum mesh (love the way it turned out) radiator cowling, front wheel and fender reinstalled, rotor covers and fender rail put in.

Turns out I need new brake pads all the way around so I couldn't put the calipers and caliper covers on tonight.

My radio will be back from Pete on Monday so hopefully the front end will be finished pretty soon.

hanks Don.

Would love to make it to the rally but Im not sure yet. Im taking the last week off in May to take my sone on a conoe trip in Minnesota, then the 22nd of June we are going to ND to see the wifes family. Im not sure yet if Ill be able to take off more time that close together. We are very flexible at work but we have some big changes coming up that may coincide with the rally. Hopefully everything times out right and I can make it.

I dont see a link on the NorCal site for the brake pads. I picked up stainless lines on eBay last week but would definitely buy pads from you guys. How are the Galfers for stopping power vs rotor wear?

Tat

The Galfer brake pads, work very good. I went from EBC HH compound pads on my old 1200 to the Galfer. The Galfer brake pads have a better bite when you first apply the brakes, when the rotors are hot like glowing red hot, the HH pads work better. but the cost is the HH pads wear the rotors, where this compound from Galfer is very easy on the rotors. When you compare apples to apples EBC F85 brake pads to the Galfer, the Galfer has a better feel and stopping.

But NorCal sells Galfer brake pads, so you'd expect me to say that. But we've been selling these brake pads for the Voyager 1200, 1700, Gold Wings different models, HD different models. The feedback has been good.

Best part is that we have them in stock.

Mr. Demon,

I'm green with envy. Looking forward to the completed pictures. I really like the looks of the rails.

I don't have your ambition, that's for sure. Mine is wintering over at the dealer. It's getting a going over, but won't have any upgrades to speak of. Money well spent if the next 10K miles go as well as the last 10.

Thanks Sheiserman. Hopefully it turns out as sexy as Im hoping. Theres no way I could leave my bikes somewhere for the winter. Even when its to cold to work on them I still stop out in the garage just to look at em. :)

Forgot to post this the other day. Pete hooked me up with an aux plug on the back of the radio for a permanently installed cord for my phones MP3s, reversed the time/station and put in some awsome blue lights.

Welcome Nate, Well by the look of that Yamaha your a motor head for sure , looks very sweet and well maintained. I believe that Voyager has found a good home. If your replacing your rear air shocks with progressives : Don't throw away your old air shocks. The rubber boots (if in good shape) fit right on the front forks.....

Definitely you will want to keep those lids locked or put tethers on them. I would hate to see them skating down the asphalt.

Thanks guys.

One of the POs put some heavy woven straps on the lids. However if one did come off on the highway Im not certain the plastic itself would hold up to the wind.
