TOLEDO PLUS ONE

Post by Lucasind »

......So one week ago I met a guy that said he was looking for a full dress bike to start out this year's riding season. I thought I would tell him about touring's
"best kept secret" ....he immediately brought up pictures of the XII,on his smart phone, and liked the way it looked and asked me many questions about them.He did some comparative shopping over the week. I got a call from him today to come check out his new ride ! here's what he found :
Image

Tyler made a 6 hr round trip road trip to the north with his truck and trailer and brought back this 2002 beauty, still a baby at 26k on the clock, new tires and a new battery. He took it for a test drive and was impressed with the performance of the Kaw in line 4. The paint and chrome are flawless and the bike is very dusty from sitting. The previous owner said the bike has only been ridden 50 miles over the last 3 years ! He is going home to his garage and begin the detailing process.........and said "my boat is now 4 sale" He is going to join our family in the next few days, and can't wait for the weather to get better and begin his voyage on his new (to him) VOYAGER :woohoo: ........tony :-D..........Tyler lives here in Toledo too

Grey?? Tony, you better get out the buffer and polish! The '03 is green! (Yeah, I know, it is hard to tell. You have to look close in the sunlight! )

....... So I just spoke to our new Voyager friends today. .... as you know Tyler bought his XII march 25th, and has been riding it like there's no tomorrow
The bad news is... that while out riding last night he started experiencing unknown electrical problems ... sounds like the dreaded(but easily fixed) factory pinch of the left side wiring harness. but ,....I will find out Sunday morning when I told him to bring it by the garage, morning coffee, and a peak at a XII, sounds like the start of a great day, :LvStrk after I fix it ,I see a nice long ride !! 2 XII's in the same place, here in Toledo is reason for a photo op I'm thinking
Will let ya all know what I find...... and of course , photos !.....tony :-D

So it's been awhile since I made this post, saying that Tyler was gonna bring the XII to my place so I could investigate the electrical problems., Well, he never came by but called on the phone, I talked him thru it, and hav'nt seen him since.
Well today after work, pam and I went to one of our favorite places for supper and after being there for awhile I hear a guy behind me say "who owns the voyager outside"
Image

I turn around to see Tyler standing there. I asked if he had his bike outside, and how things were with it, since we last spoke, he said all fixed and running good. I walked outside and saw something never seen around here,
TWO voyagers in the same place ! So I snapped a couple shots.......

I do like the colors of tylers bike but, seeing it lean over so far reminded me of why I altered my kickstand,So, we said we were going to get together for a ride, some sunday before the riding season is over.(GEEZ, did I just say that !)
:gig:riding season is breezing by too quickly,so get out there and ride! .........tony :-D

I know how you feel. For over 10 years I owned a ZRX1100 Kawasaki and in all those years I only met one other ZRX owner and he lived in Beaumont, TX. He bought his when his 81 GS Suzuki finally died. We used to ride together in the Texas Hill country. Now I own another rare Kawasaki, the Voyager XII and everyone thinks it is an antique bike since it has that 80's styling. They are shocked when I tell them it is a 2001. A few years ago Nathan, an AVA member and Charlie who used to be on here got together with me and we road for a few hours across Acadiana on our 2001's. What a treat that was! :gig:

.... A Toledo chapter of the AVA would be a very small club, .....but I'll keep trying. Pam and I rode 40 miles away for ice cream last weekend, and we were shocked to see a guy and his wife ride past on a 03' XII, I was shocked, that
Pam saw it first  ......saying , HEY isn't that a voyager ! By gosh it was !
Evening rides are great as the temps cool down. makes for some fun riding ,and having the glow lights fired up looks very cool ;-) Got to be so aware ,that the
DEERS are more active at this time.... and within 15 minutes from home, a momma and twin fawns SLOWLY crossed the road in front of us. I rapid fired the horn, and so did the boys behind me, and they hustled off ,on their way. hopefully, the 2 fawns will remember being afraid of the horns, and not hang around the paved surfaces. Here is a 9 o'clock p.m. pic in our neck of the woods

Image

I was shocked that Brad let Brian ride his Z-REX this night.... but he did,and the connie had to sit this one out back at the shop.We did the slow way there, and the concrete slabs home, which the boys on those two bikes, left us in the dust and beat us home by a long time..... but we didn't care,we were just happy to ride home next to a beautiful full moon ,and excellent riding conditions as I could ever remember......................................tony :-D

My gosh,
Tony brought back so many memories. Back in the year of the black snow (just a way of saying a long time back) in about 1989 or so all our young AVA members around Northern Illinois used to ride from that area into Wisconsin for pie and icecream on those warm summer nights. The pie and icecream was simply an excuse for all the guys an gals to take a ride. Super fun.

New chapter sounds so exciting. We remember the days so well when we recruited new Voyager riders to the club. Keep looking for those Voyagers and step right up to ask if they know of the AVA. They will probably say "No" and that gives you an opening right there. Gather them up, Tony and get that chapter started.
