Photobucket Now Requires Upgraded Plan to Display Photos

Post by ghostler »

Recently in various forums, I have noticed the following Icon appearing where Photobucket linked photos used to show:
Photobucket 3rd Party Hosting.png
Then I checked my posts here in these forums, sure enough my photos are replaced with this notice, too. Then I went to my Photobucket account. In order for me to have these photos displayed, I must now enroll in their $40 US per month plan called PLUS 500. If I opt to pay a year in advance, then it is only $400 per year. This is way too much money for what used to be free photo hosting. This is unfortunate as $400 is quite a bit of quid to pay for a casual forums poster.

To remove and restore photos requires payment or editing messages, uploading or obtaining another free or lower cost hosting site. I'm seriously considering closing my Photobucket account.
Anyway, just letting you all know. :gmad:

You still have access to your photos, you just can't show them, i.e. link back to them in forums, without the expensive upgrade to your account. This includes Facebook and Twitter, etc. I just deleted my Photobucket account, will be effective by tomorrow.

Photobucket used to be a great thing, then it turned to garbage that assaults you with ads :-( unless you ponied up the 4.95 a month or whatever it was. This Plus500 business is a whole new level of stupid, just ludicrous, and users are bailing out of photobucket, myself included.

Looking for an alternative, going to try Flickr but it's a Yahoo thing, and i'm not a fan of Yahoo.

Photobucket is true to their words. Several days ago, I clicked on the delete my account link in my profile. Today I attempted to log in, Photobucket doesn't recognize my E-mail nor password. Photobucket links to my photos are now replaced by:
Photobucket Account Closed.png
Account has been deleted and photos are no longer available. I don't know if this is a Photobucket or this forum image. I am now free and clear of Photobucket. :~~

Now I can go back and replace those in prior posts that might be of significant interest to others (like how to's).

This works, posted a couple images yesterday, easily sized for forum use and easy links for posting.

That is a forum image.
All you have to do on the forum now it upload images as attachment s now very seldom will you need to resize them.
When you make a post down towards the bottom you will see a tab that says attachment s click on the the tab and then I believe. It says add file. Select the file I think it says open click on it and thats it really simple. If it is too large it will tell you.

Saw that yesterday when posting from my phone, it would only allow me to take a camera shot and post that, instead of selecting an existing photo. Probably works a lot better for existing files on a PC. Gonna try this on my phone.

3 mb is the file size allowed. Images that are higher definition could be to large. Images that are png could be to large. I will post a link here to a video I created on how to resize images using MS-paint it is really simple.

Highway Rider, I'm glad that you've updated the site to accept photo uploads, which is great. I find it easiest to upload if I reduce photos to 800x600 using Gimp's scale image function, then save. If PNG, i export / save as JPG, which through compression reduces size even further. Photos upload quickly and display with sufficient resolution that details aren't missed. I've already updated a few earlier posts like my Harbor Freight trailer build, where I used my Photobucket links on.
