unpainting the upper, center, light lens

Post by richardb, austin »

I just unpainted it & instead of chrome-painting the white plastic to help light up the center of the light bar, I wonder if anyone has instead, installed an interior L.E.D. in that little "crawlspace" between the left & right brake/tail lights? I've ordered a JC Whitney $14 ($22 with tt&l) LED bar & I'm gonna try that- hooking it up to the tail lights not the brake. :hmm:

I am going to want to see that Richard. I have an exterior 4 LED I mounted. It is bright as in it is brighter than the 1157 I use and I use it as a running light.

An article describing one person's approach to just that is in the AVA Tech Center under the VXII section.

DC, I wound up hooking it up to the brakes instead of the taillights. I'm not too impressed with it but I'll be glad to share it with a fellow Williamson County-ite. We should meet at Andice for one of those top-ten-in-the-state burgers sometime.
Gary, thanks for the direction. I did mine just like that only different

I drilled a small hole in the back side of the reflectors and put light sockets in them.I cleaned off the fender lens and made it functionable too.My lower lights up all across the bottom. I did that when I first bought my 98 new and it still looks good.

Count ... hate seeing pics like that as I see more work I have to do in the future. I'm guessing a 200 - 400 - 600 and 1000 grit sand paper and 3 steps of polishing compound buffed out to get that look well done..

You could really use some extra lights on that trike kit. :gig:

That is not a recent picture. I have since added 18 lights to the trike kit. The alternator is the stock one. All the bulbs have been switched to LED's except for the stock turn signals. It currently charges better than it did originally with the incandesent bulbs. The trunk light is from an 86 I purchased from Carl. I'll try to get some recent pics soon of the whole bike so you can see what the rest of it looks like......

Ok as promised here are some updated pictures.

Hard to fully appreciate it in pictures as there are many lights you don't see in the picture. Notice the amber bullet lights where the mirrors used to be.
