Let the mess begin! I have all materials lined up for the Memorial Day weekend shooting session. I have a "filter box" that I made several years ago using a furnace fan I pulled out of a curbside discarded furnace. I mounted it in the garage window to draw air from the garage and blow it outside. On the other side of the garage I mounted a furnace filter and a circular fan to draw filtered air into the garage. Deb helped me put painter's plastic over the garage door and most of the tools on the wall. She also helped me ScotchBrite all the ABS plastic bits and tape everything up in preparation of the BIG PAINT DAY. I'm not too concerned with getting paint inside the trunk and saddle bags because I'm gonna use truck bed liner inside them. I managed to use dental floss to saw the tank badges off the tank. "We don't need no stinking badges!" (Movie quote.) Getting the glue off was another story and it took a good bit of rubbing, time and acetone. We got everything mounted on vertical 2x4 posts screwed to other horizontal 2x4's secured to some sawbucks. the main fairing sat neatly on a short step ladder and I hung the fuel tank and trunk lid from the rafters. Got everything shot with 2 coats of white epoxy primer today and plan to shoot the color and clearcoat with metal flake tomorrow. Oh, it's a GM color called "Velocity Yellow" and I'm using gold metal flake in the first coat of the clear coat. Velocity yellow is the same color used on Corvettes and Camaros.

OK. The metal flake was a disaster. Even with the 2.0 spray tip, the flake kept clogging the gun, so, only a small amount for flake got onto the fuel tank. I scrapped the flake and strained the flake from the clear and just shot the rest of the parts with plain clear.
IT's VELOCITY YELLOW NOW! !
I'm just guessing that I've got one of the only yellow 1700's! Can't wait to put it back together now.
