Cam Chain Tensioner on 86 1300

Post by Van Voyager »

I know there a popular opinion that the cam chain tensioner mechanism on the 1300 motor is prone to failure and it should be replaced with a manual or other type of updated tesnsioner. I notice on my 86, the tensioner has been redesigned to include some sort of hydraulic assist from the Factory. Does this mean the tensioner is not an issue (i.e. does not need to be replaced) on models equipped with a hydraulic tensioner?

If it's hydrulic it is not stock. However Kawasaki added an oil line to help lube the tensioner to reduce failers .
Still does not hurt to put in a ZX1100 tensioner

Thanks MA. I saw the oil line and was thinking hydraulic - never occurred to me it was just for lubrication.
