There used to be many more local Voyager Chapters back when the VXII was being produced. So getting a local chapter to help out on the yearly national rallys was possible. Times have changed. It's true that the membership seems to be located east of the rockies. Also some of us old timers no longer look forward to 4 or 5 thousand mile round trips to national rallys. For us located west of the rockies, maybe we need an informal no host get together? I propose someplace where it stays below 80 degrees during the event? Maybe in the spring or fall?
Barry, you got my vote!, and I think we might even be able to get some others? Maybe Nampa, ID or Spirit Lake? We have done the 4 or 5 thousand mile trip, and don't really mind that, as long as we have someone else to ride with. When we went to Hurly, WI, that was a fairly long trip, up along rte 2 as I recall, but we had someone to ride with (Don and Trish) riding both ways alone? naw.

Late October is iffy for me. Daytime highs in the 40's. Lows just below freezing at home. I missed the Kanab rally I would really like to do the hwys 89 & 89A loop. There seems to be more to do in that area. I try to avoid big cities. Anyone here attend the Kanab rally and have some memories to share? I heard it was really, really hot. Going there in mid September might be OK ??

Having the rally in Nampa works for me, but the atendees wouldn't like it. Most of the motels are next to the freeway and so is the sugar beet factory. The smell is an acquired taste  There's plenty of interesting places to ride to from here. Another possible good rally location would be Baker City, Oregon.

:hmm: Well, seems to me we did have a rally in Kalispell MT with the Rider rally back in '96. And Red River NM in '01 so we do get out west. As I recall, those rallys were well attended, but lately there just isn't enough attendance in the western states. I sure would like to see Idaho, but most anyplace between the Canadian and Mexican borders suits me.

Cody in '03 was my first rally also. Was held in conjunction with Sierracade. I won the tires from the drawing. I wanted the little horse trailer sooooo bad.

I remember you from the awards banquet. I won the Saddleman Road Sofa. About all I can say is, it looked nice. That was a really cute trailer. Since I already had a trailer in tow, kinda glad we didn't win it.

I saw how few tickets were in the little fish aquarium that the drawing tickets were in. Barely covered the bottom of it. Did some quick math on how much dough I would need to get home. Looked in my wallet and the difference was right around $80. Almost covered the bottom of the aquarium again, LOL. Played the odds and my $80 came back to me 3x.

Coming home from that rally, the smoke from Yellowstone had traveled east far enough, that I was able to ride towards home in "shade" until almost 2pm. US20 from Shoshoni to Thermopolis is still one of my all time favorite roads.

Chris, Barry,
I too was at Cody. Bernadette and I stays in the campground where we met Don and Doris Brubaker, Mike and Shirley Wong, for the first time. Was a great Rally. Don and I are still close friends to this day, although I can't figure out how that happened. As for the Grand Prize trailer, everyone want that baby. Low and behold, it was won by Doris Brubaker. (Some of us remember her screams.....) and Don got it shuffled home to Northern Cal with the help of others who's trailer hitches were empty. About 6 months later, I bought that trailer from the Brubakers. It's still sitting in my driveway.

The trailer in the picture is the one and the same trailer from the Cody AVA/Sierracade Rally.

You guys are bringing up some really great times for the AVA. Char and I always enjoyed heading West for the rallies out that way. Once crossing the Mississippi the roads began rising just about all the way to those wonderful areas.
