Bag lock

Post by KevinZ »

It's 37 degrees on February 28th, I think I'll work on my bike!
Has anyone found a cost effective replacement for these?

I really just need the return springs. My searches on the interweb have not found a spring from venders that I have found and the lock itself is either not in stock (Partzilla) or quite expensive at those who do offer them.

That looks like a contender, would just take measuring the height of the moveable tab, (I see three options that are part of the new one)
Not sure whether it would stay in the latched position? It does not appear to have a spring loaded return.

UPDATE: It is listed as non locking.... Cam Latch Type Nonlocking

Thank You GrandpaDenny, I have sent a request to them.
I have seen some variations of this latch that are of a key style but have not found a part number to search... Maybe newer years had these....

Update:
I went with the latch from mcmaster. With a bit of massaging, seems like it will work fine. I had to grind the flats down a little to fit the hole, and cut some of the tang off. It's not spring loaded, but there is plenty of resistance to keep it closed. About $30 shipped.

Looks great, Thank you for the reply. I have experimented making new spring on mine, If I can't make that repair I'll definatly consider the ones you used. :-D

I can't say for sure it will seal, as i haven't had it out in the rain or under the hose yet. But it did come with a rubber gasket, so i would think so. It does stay closed well.

The OEM seals for the 2 saddlebag lid top compartments as well as the 2 lockable compartments, 1987 and later, on the front inner cowlings all use a neoprene self adhesive strip of sealant material. IIRC the thickness is 1/4" and the width is 5/16".
I ordered all 4 seals a long time ago and once they arrived I looked at them and since then I use the household door, adhesive neoprene weatherstrip and cut it to width. Haven't done one in awhile though so I may be off slightly in those measurements.

Mine leaks through the latch not the lid seal.

I can confirm the mcmaster carr latch keeps water out, at least when washing. Not that i aimed the pressure washer right at it mind you, but I'm thinking it will be fine for normal washing and rain.
The thing is finally clean again. Whitewalls, wtf was i thinking??!! :bat:

Yeah, they do look good. They were greywalls for a while lol. Came clean pretty good with the pressure washer and a bit of elbow grease. Hopefully it was brake dust from the new pads breaking in :pig:
