Shifting noise 92 Voyager Xii

Hello again. Well it is finally above 35 in MN and I was able to get my new (older) voyager out today and I noticed a pretty loud noise while shifting especially from 1st to 2nd. Is this typical of a 92 voyager? I have no issues with noise while driving just when I shift. The noise consistently happens from 1st to 2nd and is more sporadic shifting in the other gears.

Any wisdom is appreciated for the newbie !

Try to have your RPM's above 3000 before you shift and it should shift easier and more quietly.

If your bike is not all that warmed up, it may also do that (especially in cooler weather). I also recommend you use synthetic oil and make sure you are fully pulling in the clutch lever when you shift. Some will also recommend Rotella diesel oil, but I like synthetic. Another thing to check, is the color of the hydraulic fluid in your clutch especially (and the same will apply to your brakes). If it is dark or root beer colored, completely change and bleed the lines to remove all the old fluid and any air that might be in the lines. Your clutch may not be disengaging fully because of moisure contamination in the fluid, air, or other comtaminants.

Yes, they are clunky critters at times, square cut gears in trans, little noisy at times but bulletproof, the more you ride it a learn about it, it gets better.
