Cooling Fan won,t shut off

Hey Folks greetings from Nova Scotia. I have a 2001 Xii that the cooling fan won,t turn off. Went for a ride last week and when I got home I put the bike in the shed. Was there for about 10min and all of a sudden the fan just kicked in. No key in the ignition, it just started. After about 10mins I had to pull the fuse to get it to stop. The next day I put the fuse back in and all was good. Took the bike for a ride today and when I got home the fan was on and would not shut off. Had the pull the fuse again I thought it may be the relay so I switched it out for the Acc relay and it still came on. After about 3 hours I put the fuse back in and it stayed off for about 10-12 sec then came on . I waited for an hour and tried it again and this time it stayed off for about 20 sec then it started cutting in and out like a bad electrical connection. So I'm thinking Coolant temp sensor, The longer I wait the cooler the coolant is getting. Am I way off base here,Can't think of anything other than that. Any help would be greatly appreciated Hope everyone in staying safe in these trying times.

In front of the bottom of radiator ( after taking shroud off) you will see the sensor at the bottom of radiator and where the wire goes into the sensor it has to do a very sharp right turn and that is usually where the problem starts. The strands are broke and sensor does not work. Follow the wire up to the fan motor along the left frame to the connector. I think to test it by grounding out the wire to the frame, so if you replace the sensor you should be good to go, UNLESS it is another electrical gremlin, but the sensor has been the most common fix..

I have to agree with Doug, possible fan switch problem, either the wiring causing intermittent fan operation or internal switch closed circuit grounding the fan relay trigger side regardless of the coolant temperature. The latter would cause constant fan operation unless the fan switch circuit is just starting to become permanently closed. Either way it does sound like a switch problem.
But, having said that do you know the history of the coolant? It may be past it's service life and a flush and refill may be warranted while you are working on the fan switch. Just a thought.

Hey Doug, you were right about the wire on the switch. It was bent hard and when I moved it, it broke off. I have a new one on order. Hopefully that was the problem and nothing else . Tested the fan as you suggested and it works fine.

triton28,The coolant was replaced last year when I had the rad serviced and repaired.

Just have to wait for the part to arrive which will probably be a few weeks considering everything going on the world. Thanks for the help and I'll let you know when I get the switch replaced if it solved the issue.
