Oh, yeah. Nice call.
If Yellowstone is over-the-top slammed (which it probably is), I could noodle down the west side of the Tetons instead. Most of hwys 47 and 32 are marked scenic.
Be a shame to miss Yellowstone and Grand Teton NP. But not worse than being there and hating it.
Hello everyone! As of today, we have 90 registered! That's going to be a great turn out!
Just a reminder that rally registration closes on May 9 so that we can place our t-shirt order for the rally.
If you are coming, but have not sent in your registration, do it TODAY or TOMORROW!
After that, we will not accept any orders for t-shirts. We order a few extra of the most common sizes for the rally. You can only get what is available.
Have you all made your hotel reservations? If not, do it NOW! If our blocked rooms are full at Laquinta Inn, you'll have to find other lodging.
See you all soon!

Re: Summer ride
Well, If you stay on the west side of the National Parks., be sure to stop at Mesa Falls. After all, it's located on an official scenic highway. It's well worth the short walk from the parking lot. Oh, and while in Idaho, Maverick gas stations sell real gasoline without ethanol. It costs more, but your gas mileage will improve.

Re: Summer ride
Okay, I just found Mesa Falls, right off Hwy 47. Yet another Hot Spot geologic feature. ("Ashton" should've been a clue.)

I've been to Yellowstone a bunch of times; and I know it's totally nuts-o this summer. I think I'm going to blow it off. This sounds more appealing; and I notice a wild campsite very nearby.
(And a big waterfall. There's a New Mexico story of the cowboy kid who reached shaving age before seeing rain. That day, a raindrop from high in the clouds came barrelling down and hit him right on the forehead, knocking him off his horse. They had to throw a bucket of sand in his face to bring him around.)
Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Summer ride
We will be spending a week at Henry's Lake State park in September in order to fully explore this part of Idaho. There does seem to be quite a few alternatives to the Yellowstone traffic jams. Hopefully you will find some interesting spots that haven't shown up on my radar yet. Looking forward to our visit when you're in the area.
