Hello everyone! As of today, we have 90 registered! That's going to be a great turn out!
Just a reminder that rally registration closes on May 9 so that we can place our t-shirt order for the rally.
If you are coming, but have not sent in your registration, do it TODAY or TOMORROW!
After that, we will not accept any orders for t-shirts. We order a few extra of the most common sizes for the rally. You can only get what is available.
Have you all made your hotel reservations? If not, do it NOW! If our blocked rooms are full at Laquinta Inn, you'll have to find other lodging.
See you all soon!

Gery, if it's not available in your country/area you can make a homemade version yourself using the following ingredients:
  • 25% Cleaner>Naptha
    60% Stabilizer>Kerosine
15% Oxygenate> Isopropyl Alcohol (common Rubbing Alcohol)
I have verified this info before repeating it so I didn't give anyone bad information.
Here is a link (MSDS SeaFoam chemical data) to the MSDS information directly from SeaFoam's website.

If you would have herd Greg from NY's Voyager 12 at the rally in Asheville you would not worry about a little tapping.

Yea Seafoam is great, you can put it into gastank,or crankcase.I was getting a scooter for my son, would not start but had spark.Put a can of Seafoam into gas tank, couple kicks ran good ever since. So now I put in per the instructions about 4.5 ounces into to Voyager, then put the rest into the Expedition :gig:

Most any Quality carb cleaner will help
Seafoam just seems to work a little better than most.
Most of us probably get it at Walmart or a auto parts place (autozone, oriellys,or something similar)

Chevyman1, I think you hit it on the head, I did hear a Voyager at the rally that did make some weird racket, kinda like a hay baler. I didn't know who's it was. I can't blame anyone for wondering what a weird noise is. I still don't like the oil site glass thing. I don't want to put down anybody's bike, we all love them.

I had an odd occurrence about 2 months ago on my 1,800 R/T miles trek to Missouri and back. I had an old jug of 10W-40 motor oil, was probably 10 years old but looked okay. By the time I rode 900 miles, engine was making a weird, distinct knocking sound, almost like a con rod bearing gone bad, strongest at 2k RPM. I nursed it the last 30 miles taking surface streets.

At my son's house, I warmed the engine and drained the oil. It poured out as thin as water, hit the catch pan and splashed out onto the garage floor, which surprised me. :!! After filling with 10W-50 or so Diesel engine oil with 10% Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer, it ran quiet. Since then I've ridden it another 1,000 miles even towing a trailer, noise hasn't returned. ;-)

I didn't know that engine oil could weaken or break down with age.

I not putting down that voyager I'm saying if they can sound like that and make it from NY. to NC. and back they must be indestructible and a little tapping noise is nothing to worry about.
And that Voyager will possibly be on are Fall ride in.

A Patroleum based additive you add to your gas or oil to clean varnish deposits. From Sea Foam's website:
Old petroleum residue (gum and varnish) buildup. All fuels and engine oils leave behind residue deposits that accumulate over time. In the crank case, this residue builds up around lifters and rings, preventing them from functioning properly. In the fuel system, residue builds up in the injectors or carburetor jets, on the tops of pistons and on the backs of intake valves. Residue in the exhaust adheres to this and forms deposits. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE RESIDUE IN YOUR CRANK CASE AND THE RESIDUE IN YOUR FUEL SYSTEM. IT IS ALL PETROLEUM VARNISH. Sea Foam helps slowly and safely re-liquefie this varnish so contaminants and deposits can be safely cleaned out of the systems as the engine is operated.

Hello,

Just in case other people have this same concern as I do with this problem, here is the latest:

1. Called Carl Leo,seems like a cool guy.He told me about mixing 2 quarts 22 oz of rotella T plus 1 quart ATF type F ,ride 500 miles, then change and add 3 quarts 22 oz of Rotella T.You must also change the oil filter both times, plus drain oil out of both drain plugs.

2.Plus I found the thread from farmer al, EXACT SAME ISSUE as mine,EXACT. :Cball Creeeepy.
He ended up pulling motor, changing Tappets, and found varnished, dirty oil ports.Fixed problem.BUT....when he pulled the valve cover,he said the Tappets were pressured up and not collapsed, which leads me to believe it was the clogged ports :oh:

3. I guess the ATF has a cleaning aspect to the oil, I guess some transmission shops have stated this, and maybe since you are using 1 quart compared to 4 ounces of Seafoam, you have more cleaning power without thinning out hte viscosity. In other words,to get the same amount of cleaning power with Seafoam, that would mean more of it,but then you thin out the oil.Sound logical?

By the way, thanks for all the input and thanks you for all your polite responses  I have been on other forums where some people use their second language well.........SARCASM. :gmad:

Thanks

I agree, so far this forum has mature adults with adult behavior. I quit a couple small motorcycle forums a few years ago (I own a 1971 Honda CB100), because of several unpleasant personalities there.

Yea that price I think is 80.00 a Tappet, so do the math.Although I believe Carl is right,I think that I have some clogged oil channels.

The hydraulic lifters on a 1964 Ford Falcon 200 c.i. in-line 6 had a circlip and could be disassembled and cleaned (BTDT). Does the Kawasaki one allow this? If so, that may be an option over replacing them.

A friend of mine had a 69 AMX with a 304 CI engine back in the 80's.
A lifter or two in that would start to tap and all we did was go thrash the hell out of it for about 20 minuets and it would clear right up :hmm:

Unless there is wear, I heard you could disassemble, and clean with kerosene , and think I saw that in the service manual too.The trouble is, you gotta take out the motor, which is a little time consuming .
