Impact screw driver would not work on mine. I knew I wasnt going to use mine again, so I ground the head completely off, even after trying to grind a slot and trying a flat head screwdriver. It ruined the bar end weights, but I didn't care. Then I took off the bar end weights, put vice-grips on the screws that were left and barely got them out. They had red lock-tite on them for some reason. My bike is the 1987 model if that makes any difference in when they used lock-tite and when they didn't.
As the owner of a 2000 Kawasaki ZRX whose bar ends I had to remove to install aftermarket, I can tell you Kawasaki is in love with red Loctite. Best way to remove it is to get a propane torch, heat up the heads of the screws, then use an impact driver to loosen. They will then come out with an ordinary phillps. to prevent this from happening again, replace the phillips head with a comparable allen head screw. Most aftermarket bar ends will come with the phillips head screws.
When you replace the screws, use a light coating of blue loctite on the whole screw, instead of just a dab in one spot. This will help keep the screw from corroding at all along its length, and then sticking in place.
