Re: LED Light conversion
Scott, I think that foil tape would be ok. We had an old lady in a couple weeks ago in her '95 Mark VIII. O....my.....gosh! The front suspension was collapsed and it looked as if the front wheels were pushed back against the fenders. Front crossmember had probably been caught on the railroad tracks as low as the front of this thing was. The wipers were stuck in the middle of the windshield and there was chrome a/c duct tape all over the front of it, either just for looks, or probably, more likely, holding the front end on. It was on the grill, around the headlights, everywhere. So, I'm thinking, you might be ok on the "extreme" portion of your foil tape theory. Wish I'd had a camera, LOL.
Joe, glad it worked for you. It was a little messy and time consuming, but for basically no dough, I was happy with the results.

Re: LED Light conversion
One of these Saturdays Gary, I'm gonna grab the wife fill the tank and hit the ATM. Then take a ride up your way! If you don't have the LED's by then, I'll pick up a few and bring them with me. Honestly though they are running about $17 a pair locally, haven't priced them (with shipping) on line yet.Gary (Forum Admin) wrote: I hope my local Trader Horn doesn't stop getting rhinestones, or I'll be in trouble!
Like you, if I can I would much rather buy locally even if it is the exact same product. I would just as soon a local guy get my $0.03 profit than some overseas outfit.
As for the rhinestones, well buddy you're on your own there!

Re: LED Light conversion
I wanted more brake light, so I went out to the junkyard and found one of the top rear LED light strips from a 80's or mid 90's Chevy Blazer, the little Blazer. I also saw some on top of the GM Mini Vans. I just tapped into the wires inside the trunk. I simply couldn't bring myself to drill holes into my 03, so I bought some heavy duty velcro with the sticky stuff and attached to the bottom rear of the trunk. It really lights up! I had already put LED 1157's in the trunk sockets, so I don't think I'm pulling very many watts back there, even with the strip. The light strip is of course is tough enough for this duty. I gave 5 bucks for the strip and a buck and a 1/2 for the velcro and I had some wire laying around. This is the most important and cheapest modification I've done. I mean this baby lights up brilliantly on the sunniest of days!

Re: LED Light conversion
I was at Advance Auto Parts today looking for driving lights and LED 1157s. They have LED driving lights in blue or white 8 led or 12 leds. Has anyone seen these in operation? I like the low current draw and they would look good on or under the crash bars. John in KC

Re: LED Light conversion
Toro8/John,
Just remember to use colored LED's that match the lense, e.g. red led's for tail lights, amber/orange led's for turn signals. The while led's will wash out the lense color and give a white appearance rather than red as you would think it would.
Also, check prices at various places. I have found some on eBay for about 60% of what the auto parts store wants and the shipping was free. Also remember that the light is emitted directly outword, led's don't provide 360 degrees of light so you will want to get lights with radial led's as well as straight out the end.

Re: LED Light conversion
Thanks for the info I have seen radial LED lamps on the net and they look like tiny satelites to me. I am interested to see what the next generation of LEDs will do. John in KC

Rusty, bring it on down. Though this picture shows 3, I had 4 in the garage the other day. I think I can squeeze one more in there.Rusty - SC Iowa wrote:By the way, I can have mine down there in three weeks so you can do the conversion on it.

Re: LED Light conversion
Really I see the connection, Early years wrenching on Chrysler products, later buys Plymouth mini van, likes Voyager name, buys motorcycle with same name. Didn't we all go through this same experience? John in KC

Re: LED Light conversion
John, there is a fondness for Chrysler products in my blood for sure. One of the first couple years of their minivans, they had a turbo version. There was a guy, Gary Donavan, who, with a few tricks, got one to run in the 13's in relatively stock form. He passed away a few years ago, but he was really into the turbo Dodges. He had a K-car that ran 10s. Here's a link to one of the videos. Take note of the crowd's reaction when he runs through the traps and his E.T. pops up on the board.

Me Again, you're correct. Same as the General Lee. 1969 Charger R/T Special Edition. 440 4-speed lots of options. Power windows, power brakes, a/c, rear window defogger, leather. Only had it out a couple times last year. Need to get all these Voyagers dealt with, and the trailers, and the scooter, so I can get to that side of the garage. I'm sure the battery needs charged up. But it does run.

Re: LED Light conversion
Love the rumble power that you can feel Turbo whine is nice too. I have owned several early Saab 900's that were bog into traffic or sit while the tires spin. It took the right touch to leave in a hurry. John in KC
