Nice job. Not having any such thing before I'm going to allow my ignorance to show. Is it to stop wind and bugs form hitting your hands?

What material did you make them out of, if you don't mind my asking.

I used lexan...Wish it was smoked but the glass shop I got it at did'nt have anything but clear..
Hopefully they will keep wind RAIN* and bugs off my hands but the real reason was to take some wind off Debbie
*for some reason this bike has allways thought it is a duck and needs to be wet everytime it comes out of the garage. Last year we put on about 14k and I think 13.9k of those were in the rain :gmad:

Did you make a copy of the shape these, along with a "bill of materials"? How did you fasten them to the mirrors? I think a lot of members would be interested in making a set.

I used 1/8" lexan..I just used self taping screws and screwed 3/4" alum angel to the bottom of the mirror. I don't think you would want to use anything smaller then 3/4' angel because I think you need the support, and you would'nt want to drill to close to the edge of the lexan.
Yes I have the pattern but I did do a little touch up after I cut the lexan.
Anybody that wants the pattern PM me with a snail mail and I will send it, For I don't know how to scan and post so it comes out the right size. :hmm:

Making a set that would go between the mirror base and the chrome strip might be easier to install. Rick made a couple sets like that.

Edit: Rick sent some pics. He got the pattern from Jim Hall. Mike in IL also made a set for the '01. I think David Carter was also making some for a while, but not sure.

Are the Rick style wings flat? In the picture they look like they have some compound curves. Is their a pattern for these? Anything to reduce passenger wind is a good thing. John in KC

Yes, the bottoms and outer edges both have bends or curves to them.

Curves would make them much stronger so they would not flap in the wind. John in KC :windy:

I would be very interested in templates for this.

I've always wanted to make some sort of a pivoting wind wing in that exact spot to protect hands in cold weather, and bring in air in hot weather.

It would be a concept similar to what I've done on my Concours with 2 pairs of pivoting wings:
