Coolant System Flush 2002 Voyager

Post by VoyKimmer »

Is it necessary to flush the coolant system even though I change the coolant every year? I have changed the antifreeze every year since new and have never seen anything in the old coolant. It looks like new. Have never flushed the system. Wonder if I should.

Thanks

If you've changed the coolant that often, use soft water or pre-diluted, and have never had an overheating problem, then I doubt you would have to flush the system. Flushing the cooling system is more likely in the event of prolonged coolant use, or the continued use of hard or tap water if you mix your own coolant. All commercial pre-diluted coolants use soft or distilled water when making that product.

I use Prestone Extended Life Antifreeze coolant full strength and mix it with distilled water at a 53 % Water to 47 % antifreeze that gives me – 32 Deg freeze protection. I change all my fluids on all my vehicles yearly and have had good luck with no radiator, transmission, water pump, power steering pump failures. In do not run water through the system. Just empty and refill. I think I will stick to my schedule and not flush the system and do what I have been doing.

53 % Water to 47 % antifreeze

How do you measure 47% of a jug of coolant.
Scientific or just approx

I just figure it is about that strength. I use a refractometer to measure freeze point at -32 Deg. A 50/50 mix is -35 Deg. I use a little more distilled water than a 50/50 mix.
