Tips for removing front speakers

Post by surfhawk »

I learned the hard way.
Removing front speakers was for me a royal pain in the neck.
Here is something that might help you avert unnecessary headaches:

1. Before you remove any screws take out the (front, of course) turn signal modules.
2. Prepare a wad of J-B-KWIK
3. Spread the wad over the clips and brass brackets, securing them to the back side of speaker well.

There are four brackets per speaker that the speaker covers screw onto:

And two brass brackets (upper and lower) per speaker that they screw onto.

You can see it looks kind of messy, but it keeps these from falling off when you take the screws out.

4. Wait for the mix to dry and then remove the covers and speakers without worrying about hunting for fallen pieces.

Why?
Because otherwise more than one clip or bracket will fall off and you know what will happen then . . . good luck finding and reattaching them.

In the time that you are waiting for your J-B to dry you could have pulled the fairing and had complete access to the speakers without any problems in keeping those clips in sight.

You follow the directions in the maintenance manual. If you don't have one, you start by taking off the lower fairings, the windshield trim, windshield, mirrors, headlight surround, etc and then you can take off the left or right upper fairing. You have to watch how the vent channels fit into the picture. Slow and patiences keeps things from breaking.
