i don't know if any one else has had this problem, but i bought my 91 XII about 3 months ago and the tape player was working fine. the problem, the player still works fine but when i put a tape in, the tape gets stuck and i cannot get it out. any suggestions without having to replace the whole thing?

Re: Tape Deck
Tape? What's a tape? I thought that opening in the radio was where you put an adapter to plug the CD or MP3 player into. :-P

Re: Tape Deck
i will go out and get the tape adapter. Also, i may only be 25 but i still do listen to tapes every once and a while, i'm too cheap to go buy a ton of cd's. besides there are some that they do not make in cd.

Re: Tape Deck
If any of you have an XM radio kit, which came with a cassette adapter, it will work with your MP3 player also.
I had one laying in a box in the garage. I always use the radio station option in the car, so I had never used the cassette adapter.
I tried it with my ZEN MP3 player, and it works great.

Re: Tape Deck
You can take all the advice you got here and when your tape is done just yank on the wire and it should pop out.i don't know if any one else has had this problem, but i bought my 91 XII about 3 months ago and the tape player was working fine. the problem, the player still works fine but when i put a tape in, the tape gets stuck and i cannot get it out. any suggestions without having to replace the whole thing?

I suspect it has not been used much and is just sticky.if you have a small oiler that you can put a small drop of oil on the rails you may be able to get it to work.Might be better to spray some contact cleaner in then pop an old tape in and out to free it up.

Re: Tape Deck
it does do it with all the tapes. i had thought to take it to the clarion dealer near me and have them fix it. i was thinking that there may be a spring that is broken on the inside.

Re: Tape Deck
If you decide to try to get it fixed at the Clarion dealer you were talking about, first make sure that they can actually fix a product from a motorcycle and what all you will need to provide them to get that done. I took my Clarion radio to a dealer who sent it in to a Clarion service center who done car stereos several years ago. They thought they could probably work on it. First, they ended up breaking one of the knobs, then they wanted all the control switches on the bike so they could see if it worked after they got it back together. I told them if they were a good service center, they shouldn't need all the switches and I wasn't going to take all that off my bike. After they insisted they needed all the switches and cables on the bike for the radio controls, I requested they just put it back together and sent it back to me. I got it back in pieces. I had to pay them $30 at the time when I took it to the dealer, and before anything was done. I then looked at the disassembled unit and quickly found a bared wire shorting against the tape chassis (my tape player wouldn't work- that is why I initially sent it in). I repaired the wire myself, assembled the radio, and it's been working great ever since. If I would have known how to get it apart in the first place, I would have tried the repair myself. Moral of the story, Clarion car stereo repair services may not be able to work on bike products- be very sure first.
I've been told that Sierra will still work on old Clarion bike units, but you would have to double check that.

Re: Tape Deck
Before you take it all apart, you may want to try a light spray of silicone. Avoid the head and rollers. Run your head cleaner after to clean up any over spray on the head and rollers.
