So long old pal

Post by Charles L. »

Everything changes, always has, always will. The last Voyagers Voice magazine came today. I'll miss it, but i understand, as i understood that the Voyager xii motorcycle had to finally come to its manufacturing end in 2003 after being built for seventeen years. Who would have believed that same motorcycle could have been made for that long ? And look at our AVA club that came about because of that bike and the way folks felt about it. We all looked for the company to come out with a modern upgrade, but exactly what, no one knew. It didn't happen. So long old pal.

...I too will miss the V.V in it's current state, BUT... as I read ,then confirmed when I received a renewal postcard yesterday, the $20 price is great !..... I planned on paying the $45 voted in at the last rally, so....I guess I will send $40 for two years and still have $5 in my pocket.

Just like Tony, I will also miss the paper version of the V.V., :-( but the reduction in membership dues should be much more appealing to those who are more strapped than we are. I welcome the savings but more so welcome the newer folks who find it inviting!
I just hope we can all share that this isn't a bike/brand specific group, remember "it's about the VOYAGE!"

I will be utilizing the "DONATE" button also, especially with the savings being shared with us!

For me the online Voyager Voice is a welcome change. I am having such a hard time reading print formats these days. My eyes are not what they used to be, the reason I no longer subscribe to my favorite motorcycle mags. Some changes are unavoidable.

The PAPER Voice may be gone (except for an annual Rally issue) But the Voyager's Voice magazine is alive and well and better than ever! There are some advantages to the electronic format other than cost savings. The paper issue had to be a multiple of four pages due to the printing process. We limited the printed issues to 24 pages for cost reasons but now the magazine can be as long as it takes! No restriction on the number or length of articles. Also, the issues will be full color, no more black and white photos! Also, the printing and mailing of the magazine delayed delivery by up to two weeks.

Like many, (of my generation!) I prefer to read books (remember those?) rather than eBooks. However, I have read a number of Kindle books and a lot of online articles and magazines so I know I can do it! And, if truth be told, it's not that bad! If it keeps the AVA alive, I'm for it!

....So, all in all...I guess the only people that WILL NOT be pleased to hear of the change to "paperless" voyager voice editions in the future... is the printing co. this is a win ,win for all else...
but I have a feeling this type of thing has been happening for some time now in that profession. :-(

We were using a small printer J & N printing in one of the small towns on the San Francisco peninsula, San Carlos, CA. Jeff the owner has treated the AVA very good, and he always new that we the AVA would be going Digital eventually.

For the next issue of the VV it like to do a AVA members riding the Dragon. If anyone has pictures of themselves on the Dragon and are high resolution.

 Way to go Loren, I was thinking of doing something exactly along those lines when I renew. I love the AVA and feel lucky enough that the dollar savings would do a lot better helping the AVA than buying me a pizza!

And one thing no one has mentioned, Hundreds of copies of Voyager Voice can be stored on the PC drive, or a portable drive, or a dvd and be played back on your large screen TV - or print out on your color printer any photo you may want -

I personally enjoy going back over old issues of VV just to see what happened at the last rally for instance. I think this is a very good choice all the way around as stated above....
