About to Purchase a 2011 Voyager

Post by winger53215 »

I am about to go for it. I took it for a test ride and it was smooth. I will have the rear speakers and helmet chord installed if I do go with it. It has 16000 miles. It seems very clean. Is there anything I should look for? I have had a Yamaha Venture and a Goldwing. Almost bought a wing today but found the riding position to hurt my hips.

What exhaust upgrade?

To the Original Poster:

The KAMS kit is nice if you live in the south and ride the bike in the heat of summer or in a lot of traffic. Probably not needed if you live up north.

The Voyager 1700 is a pig, but so are the other bikes you have ridden and/or are looking at. Being a pig, it is so planted on the road that not much bothers it.

If you are going to carry a passenger make sure she goes along for the test ride. This bike is not good for large ladies. If your wife is large, you would be better off with the wing, and getting a custom seat for your comfort.

Look for abnormal belt wear, squeaks and rattles, and all the normal things you would look for on any bike.

Not sure how many years it was but Kawasaki did a mod on the header pipe ,something about bigger/better heat shield to aid driver comfort.
As for the kams kit ,it gets hot up here to .In 2012 it became standard equipment .

I had the dealer install the exhaust heat shield upgrade on my 2009 at no charge. It is something that Kawasaki offered to owners if they wanted it added. It is a bigger wider heat shield and it helped with exhaust heat for the rider.

That heat shield was standard on '11. Hot is a relative term. When I was in Wisconsin along the Mississippi July 4th, 2014, the locals were riding in shorts and I had a sweatshirt under my jacket. LOL!

don't really know much about the older ones i traded my 08 goldwing for a 2015 voyager and love the bike starts to really find it's sweet spot at around 70 plus and really smooth at 80mph. have not had a problem as far as heat is concerned here in central texas althought the needle does go a little to the right of the center mark but no over heating.

I have a 2011 Voyager, having come from an 08 Nomad and before that an 03 Wing. Go for it the Voyager is a great bike. If you are concerned about the heat you can buy some heat deflectors from RJ Originals to help. As stated heat is a relative term. I have ridden in the mid 90s and yes it is warm but you area getting heat from everywhere not just the bike.

Just my .02¢ worth.

Me I now like my Voyager 1700, could it be faster and more powerful? Yes, but so could any motorcycle sold today. But for what the Voyager 1700 was designed to do. Roll down the road, it's s great motorcycle.

I came from the Voyager 1200 & Connie 1000, both were fast and smooth. But the Voyager 1700 is made to run down the highway with no worries. Set the cruise, plug in the Ipod fill the fuel tank and ride.

Heat: my 1700 is a 2012 and I don't feel much heat. I did take the Kams fan off once, to clean behind the rear cylinder. The engine looked so good without the Kams fan I left it off. The one day I was riding in stop and go traffic in San Jose, CA. When I got home I reinstalled the Kams fan.

I've ridden my 1700 in most of the fifty states and Canada. Seems like the more I ride the 1700 the smoother it's getting. I'd buy another one when this one wears out, but seems like that might be awhile.
