Just a reminder that rally registration closes on May 9 so that we can place our t-shirt order for the rally.
If you are coming, but have not sent in your registration, do it TODAY or TOMORROW!
After that, we will not accept any orders for t-shirts. We order a few extra of the most common sizes for the rally. You can only get what is available.
Have you all made your hotel reservations? If not, do it NOW! If our blocked rooms are full at Laquinta Inn, you'll have to find other lodging.
See you all soon!

water pump removal

water pump removal
I thought I had seen a post about this some time ago, but now when searching it only comes up with one, and that does not really tell how to remove the water pump. The post I thought I seen before was how to do it without having to remove the radiator and exhaust pipes on that side of the bike like the service manual says. The problem is removing the two bolts that attach the water pipe to the pump (exhaust pipes are in the way). Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Use a looong 1/4" drive extension and and come at them from the front between the exhaust pipes. Take foot peg & linkage off and complete pump will pull out somehow & yes it will come out of there!!! Or you can take the bolts out of the pump which splits the pump in half and it will come out . (MAKE SURE WHEN YOU PUT SEAL IN YOU PUSH IT ALL THE WAY DOWN)
AND also ""YOU MUST HAVE THE PUMP SHAFT LINED UP ""PERFECTLY""!!!!! WITH THE MATING SLOT IN THE ENGINE"" upon reinstall.. about a 2 to 3 beer job.

In other words, you need to remove the radiator? The one I seen, you did not have to remove the radiator or any plastic. Maybe I'm dreaming.

No you do not have to remove the radiator or even the shroud around it.
Run 1/4" extension thru the area under the bends in the exhaust pipes ( a wobble extension works well) & you put the socket on the extension when you get it up by the bolts.
TIP:: loosen hose clamps on hoses to pipes,under radiator, you are removing and lube the pipes & hoses and then run the pipes up into the hoses to give you more room to pull pump out and put it back in.

Also,make sure you replace the O-rings with the correct new ones.
I just had to replace my water pump intake O-ring, that I put in 2 years ago,because I installed one that was too thin.
