600 mile day

Post by HMB Don »

Just got home from the Mid-Atlantic ride in. Great event co hosted by Barrett and Kevin.
But yesterday was a milestone for me and Trisha. We rode 600 miles with 300 of those miles on wet roads. That was our fourth day of high mileage days, and the highest.

Now THAT is a cool looking trailer. Looks like something the Batcycle would pull.

Some folks here (not naming names) have bragged about 1K days — definitely within the scope of these land yachts.

Don, I’m impressed. I have done over 1k days in the past in younger years but now I have a hard time doing 500 mile days. Now 400 mile days is about my limit but I prefer 300 to 350 max most of the time. I know I definitely could not do a 600 mile day. You guys are real troopers and motorcycle riders.

My longest day was 680. Not much fun running down I-95, especially when a lens fell out of my glasses!

I've done several 700+ mile days but those didi not involve significant time on wet roads. Rain riding increases the amount of fatigue. My last ride with significant rain was a 600 miler from the Nashville IN rally to Jacksonville AR. I have had easier 750 mile days.

Even more fun when you should-a replaced that back tire before leaving on the trip.

Sounds like a nice trip and bet you slept well after that 600 mile day! I did a couple of the 1K Iron Butt rides but the last one was 5 yrs ago. Tried out the ST1100 last summer with a 550 mile mountain run but the most me and the missus have rode is around 500. Of course, she slept part of those miles! :)
