Speedo too

I replaced a speedo drive and cable. I took it our for a ride and after 100 miles the speedo needle started jumping and had an incorrect speedo reading. It showed 30-40 when I was going 60-70 plus and it would jump to 60/70 when I slowed down. It finally quit working, I pulled the cable and it lookes fine, I spun the front tire and the drive turns . I also connected the cable to a drill and the speedo registered the speed . I've been around Voyagers for along time and have about experienced every problem with them,but this a new one on me.

Good to see you Sarge. I was just wondering if the gears in the speedo unit were kind of stripped. Could it not spin when under the pressure of turning the cable and speedometer gauge? Or slip a whole bunch? Let us know what you find out if you would.

It does sound like your front wheel sending unit is stripped. It's just as easy or easier to just replace that as a unit versus getting the gears and seals to take it apart and rebuild. You might also want to be sure that the tang that turns the front wheel sending unit is not broken or in bad shape.
