Folks,
I just installed the new wet cell battery. I bought it at NAPA $72.00. Now my battery light comes on and stays on. I know there is enough acid in the cell. I didn't have any problem pulling the sensor out of the old battery or any hassle putting in the new one, but the light comes on. Any ideas on what's going on and how to fix??? I was able to ride here in Iowa today. I just can't get over how smooth this 03 is. I fell in love all over again. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Greg

Re: New battery, red light?????
The red light comes on when the liquid in the battery gets below the end of the probe, signaling the need for enough distilled water to bring it up to the proper level.
That said, I have a NAPA battery and experienced the same issue...the NAPA design does not let the probe down far enough to touch the liquid, so the light stays on.
There are several postings in the Tech Tips forum on this subject to get your battery issue straightened away in short order. The quickest way is to push the probe into its hole, cut the wire off at the probe, attach a 100ohm resister to the wire, solder a connecter to the end of the wire and attach it to the positive terminal on the battery. The light will go out and stay out. The result is that periodically you must look at the battery to check for the proper level of liquid.
Once again, check the tech tips forum for other, possibly more elegant solutions to your issue.

Re: New battery, red light?????
Hi Greg, Maybe I can figure out a way to get the probe in there a little further. Thanks for the info. I did try the search feature in the tech forum with no luck. I'm going to take another look to see what I can find.

You want to look in the AVA Tech Center, that is where the probe tech tips and a bunch of others are.gregchristy wrote:Hi Greg, Maybe I can figure out a way to get the probe in there a little further. Re: New battery, red light?????
Hi Gary,
Thanks for taking the time for you suggestion. Well, I went out to clean off that sensor probe this morning and it broke off, so that kind of leads me to where you've directed me. I've probably seen that article in the Tech Tips before and missed it this time. Thanks again. I'm going to run the sensor wire to the + terminal as recommended in the Tech Tip.
