Dumb Decisions

The man that does my paint work on my bike I work with's son decided it would be a good idea to go out last Saturday night on his crotch rocket and have a couple of beers or maybe more like 12, then thought a high performance bike with a low performance rider would be fun to ride as fast as possible through town at 2:30 am. Well, here's the results of that plan after meeting up with a steel telephone pole. He really lucked out this time, a shattered foot and well......... the best way to say this is a punctured........tant. If you don't know that saying, trust me, you don't want it punctured. Now even better, no bike insurance (not required in Florida) no health insurance, and the Police want to "talk to him" when he feels a little better, ( and the blood test come back) One stupid decision has cost him his, bike, a healthy foot. maybe a family down the road, the cost of a telephone pole replacement, D.U.I. fines, court fines and any other fines thrown at him. My point is, DONT DRINK AND RIDE OR DRIVE, a taxi cost about $20.00. Thank God he wasn't killed, he did have all the right gear on, just his brain was off.

If you wanna call it "luckily" what happen was he went into a tank slapper and it threw him clear of the bike before it hit the pole, he slid down the road on his back with a Kevlar back protector on, something on the bike "got " him in the......well you know, as he flew off it. If he would have been anywhere near that bike when it hit this would be a whole different story with a bad outcome. His dad says the kid said he would strip the bike and sell the good parts on E-Bay, Dude, I was looking at the crankshaft hanging out the bottom of the engine, thinking Good parts?

Wish we could ban alcohol instead of guns.

Been riding since I was 14. Never used alcohol in any form. Still alive at 60 and still able to ride. I don't call that luck, personally.

I drink socially (very minimally) and if we're out I am always the designated driver, so if I have one or two drinks my car isn't moving for at the least two hours and trust me when everyone see's me flip from a beer or mixed to soda or ice water they know they'll get home safe. I have no problem setting in a club with friends drinking N/A drinks for 3, 4 or 5 hours as long as everyone is calm and there are no problems.
Thankfully I've always kept my senses and never taken a bike when going out like that. Even one drink would worry me and seeing what this kid did, I'm glad I never have!
I hope he heals fast and the lesson learned was learned by his friends as well, sometimes a few of the rest of the fools learn from one's mistake.
By the way ...not clearing the tank..... OUCH!

I hate to be cruel here, but I am more thankful he didn't ruin someone else's life with his stupid choice.

The sad part is that most of that type person become a repeat offender.

I agree with each and everyone of you, this dummy is one of those little smarta**es that we all know, While in the E.R. his dad said his was F bombing all the nurses and doctors, acting like a fool so to say, I'm thinking he will have to spend a little time in the local county "gated community" before it's over, then he will find out just how tough he really is, another little problem is he is a kid in his actions, I find out today that he is 31 years old, by the time I was 31 I had learned about gravity and how hard that road really is, not by wrecking my bikes but just using common sense, something that I have noticed should be on the endangered list by watching people and the stunts they pull.

Well, the rear caliper & rotor looks salvageable.... On a more serious note the comment on the Lord looking out for drunks rings true...Just last week a drunk was going 100mph at 5:30 AM the wrong way on a freeway in Seattle and of course the woman he smashed into (whom my wife knew) was killed and he was not injured. Turns out he had 3 prior DUI's and never installed a court mandated breath test ingnition interlock. Now the state legislature is "debating" if the the threashold for a felony vs misdemeanor DUI should be lowered from 5 to 3 ...and maybe it's not such a bad thing if this "Kid" can't procreate as the the odds of this being a signficant lesson learned at 31 is probably not good...

Good point about the beauty of Natural Selection. Be sure to get this kid the good news; he may be eligible for a Darwin award since he may have removed himself from the gene pool.

I'm not sure about the 5 versus 3 thing. I always thought one DUI was a Felony (it sure is career ending and upwards of $10K or more of various fines for military personnel).

I have heard that the reason that drunks survive crashes so well is that their body is already so relaxed that is just goes with the flow.

The rear tire also looks like the chicken strips have zero wear (but then again it is Florida).

He had just put $1000.00 worth of tires and pipes on it. Guess he thought that made it bulletproof, and yes, it's probably a good thing he may not be able to breed.
Down here in Martin County they have a special Taxi for people that have a few to many.

One of our local body shops does a lot of P/R work combining it with some public relations. They have a car that was amazingly totaled, looks like it hit an embankment hard then possibly spun around because the back end of the car has significant damage as well. The passenger compartment is raised from the accordion flex of the frame but still it's easy to see that someone was hurt "bad" in this accident. WELL they tot it around on a roll-off and drop it in various parking lots with a huge steel sign welded to poles that runs center front to center back reading, "Don't text and drive, we can't fix everything!"
So collecting a few bikes like this and putting them on display would at the least be somewhat educational as to how many make foolish decisions.
