Re: Goin To Town
Yup.....I just went out and hooked it up to a tire and the front forks were at 40psi.

Re: Goin To Town
If the front end was rebuilt with progressive springs you shouldn't need any air in them.
If it has a Super-brace on the front, take it off and go for a ride. I recently got my first Voyager and the front end was very bouncy! A friend of mine told me to take my brace off the front and man what a difference. Nice and smooth. The brace should just drop in but mine was tight in the forks. I took it to work and machined it so it would fit. Now I think this is one of the smoothest bike I've ever ridden.

Re: Goin To Town
Its simply amazing how much better it rides with 7psi of air in the front forks instead of 40, and 40psi in the rear shocks instead of 0!!
Oh yea the air filter was garbage, with the new one is idles much better.

Re: Goin To Town
Try Progressive springs in the front, and their Spring shocks in the rear.
You'll really feel a difference.
Stock suspension is junk compared to Progressive

Re: Goin To Town
I hope your air will hold all day. With all the hoses involved int getting air to from up there by your knee all the way back to one shock, and then to the other shock is too much opportunity for a leak. We had a leak on our XII. I could have 36 PSI every morning and haver zero by the afternoon. With Marcia on the back I would drag the pegs in turns. Progressive is the way to go without spending too much money. It is an easy job to do too since you are now familiar with how to get the luggage off. Just remember if going with Progressive shocks in the rear that there is a standard and a heavy duty external spring so buy accordingly. We had standard springs set on about 3-4 and we did OK (our combined weight is about 350 with gear on).
Another option is Race Tech, Gold Valve Emulators. They are more expensive then Progressive but many folks, including David from North Alabama/Tennessee think they are worth the extra money.
We have a fork brace on our Goldwing but never had one on our XII. I know that there was a procedure to bed the fork brace in that involved loosing the axle pinch bolts, bouncing the shocks, and then setting the pinch bolts to speck. I have read that some of the XII fork braces will push the shocks tubes out and some have had to grind the brace a little.

Re: Goin To Town
The rear shocks don't go up to the front anymore, the fill valve is behind the left saddlebag. I will check it every other day to see if it bleeds out. When I redo the front forks I will go Race tech, did that on my old Tour Glide and for a slow 850lb pig with no clearance, it carved corners pretty darn good.
Today I bought some speakers to get rid of the 16 year old stockers, that sounded HORRIBLE! the right side was the "learning" side.
What an involved process it is to change the speakers in the dash!
and of coarse as I was taking it apart.....tinkle-clink......down inside the fairing the lower mounting plate goes, that was pretty easy to find and retrieve. Then while putting it back together.....the speakers in......and the grill is going back on.......and......tinkle-clink!
the frickin speed nut for the grill screw falls in the fairing....and its gone! Ended up having to take the whole side of the fairing off. Got lucky with a magnet pen while fishing. The left speaker went in like a dream, put it back together and wired them up.......and they sound GREAT!!

Re: Goin To Town
Parts are ordered and will start to show up soon.
I spent last night working on the rear rack/speaker unit. I've been slowly cleaning the old girl up, the PO was a "duct tape repair" kinda guy. So there is ALOT of glue crap to get off this bike. Anyhow the rack is now clean as are the speaker housings and I will start looking at rear speakers to replace the stockers. Size seems to be a little more critical on the rears. I also have to do some plastic repair on the fairing lowers. I think that will be easier than trying to find replacements for now....cheaper too!

Re: Goin To Town
I have to admit that its coming along! Both front and rear seats are replaced with a set without holes or tears, added a Markland backrest, replaced all the speakers now, along with the rear speaker isolators. Have replaced......or put back some of the original fasteners and the lower center light is now a run/brake light. Tomorrow I will install a radio that has a display........its getting there.

Re: Goin To Town
Got the other radio in today.........need to order the radio dampers, the originals are rotted and falling apart. Chased a non-op problem for an hour, ended up having to repair some wires that must have broke while taking it apart, and I didn't plug in one of the handlebar controls.........DUH!!
Its all back together now and everything works.......even the display on the radio!
