Hello everyone! As of today, we have 90 registered! That's going to be a great turn out!
Just a reminder that rally registration closes on May 9 so that we can place our t-shirt order for the rally.
If you are coming, but have not sent in your registration, do it TODAY or TOMORROW!
After that, we will not accept any orders for t-shirts. We order a few extra of the most common sizes for the rally. You can only get what is available.
Have you all made your hotel reservations? If not, do it NOW! If our blocked rooms are full at Laquinta Inn, you'll have to find other lodging.
See you all soon!

Being thankful (?) for a coolant leak...

Post by HawkeSHR »

Fortunately it decided to go, AFTER, I returned home from a beach trip last weekend. :LAngel ... Yes, God was looking out for us.

Working on a coolant leak. Seemed to be coming from the radiator connector hose, and/or the hose to the cylinder horizontal pipe and/or the bottom radiator hose connection. I pulled the covers and watched for the leaks. I did find a rip in one of the hoses, that is a given. they are both pretty old and the clamps look pretty old and a bit rusty. Leaks seemed to be coming from the hoses but I did not have time to look close at the radiator connection - tomorrow's checklist.

I have replacement hoses and I'm hoping it is not the radiator  .
I guess worst case is I pick up an eBay radiator, several online right now... I will know tomorrow.

So no use complaining about my leak issues and I'm glad I still have my trusty KLR "Old Faithful" to keep me on two wheels. I think she got jealous not being allowed out of the barn for so long. For a thumper moves well through commuter traffic and is very nimble with all the Pennsy potholes.

Questions:
Anyone have the bottom hose connection at the radiator crack or fail. Is it worth trying to solder/weld at that point or just get a replacement radiator?

Any input on coolant would be appreciated. It is a good time to purge the system. I have lots of Honda coolant (blue bottles) I use for my KLR.

Any other advice, "be careful of this", etc., feedback is appreciated also. :hmm:

I would recommend while you are that far into it, to replace the water manifold O-rings.The failure of one of those stopped my riding season last year a little earlier than I planned. But while I was doing that,I replaced the water pump seal, and O-rings,the coolant hoses and the alternator brushes. I also noticed how the radiator was loaded with bugs, which I cleaned out before reinstalling. :perfect10:

Thanks for adding that Cushman. At least I am well versed now at getting to that region of the bike.

I did get the replacement hoses and clamps. All is well, tight and no leaks. Radiator is not leaking thank God!

Was also able to replace a broken side mirror and my speedo drive.

Back on the road...! :woohoo:

Thanks to both of you for responding!
