Handlebar Grip Replacement

Post by ComputerGeek59 »

All,

I am relatively new to the forum but have learned many things from reading the great posts. I bought a 1998 Kawasaki Voyager Xii last summer and decided it is time to do some maintenance and upgrades to my ride. I am trying to replace the handlebar grips on the cycle and the plug at the end of the handlebars will not come out. I tried to use an impact screw driver to loosen the screws. They will not move! Has anyone else had this problem? My next step was to heat the screws but I don't want to mess up the rubber in the ends of the plugs.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

There is usually a fair amount of threadlock on those that make them a big pain for sure. I know a lot of members recommend several different products and ideas. For me I used a pair of channel locks on the bar ends (with a rag to prevent teeth marks, and turned at the same time as the screw. That got it started and then I could finally back the screws out.

Thanks! I will give that a try and see if I can break it loose! I need to get it done somehow because the grips that are on it hurt my hands after and hour of riding. The gel ones I had on my Concours were good to go for the entire day.

I guess I should have done additional homework before deciding to cut them off and replace them. With that said I do like the choice of grips that I installed. I used them on my Concours and they are very comfortable grips. They are the gel grips I got from the Motorcycle Superstore.
