I am glad I took the opportunity to get the first rides of the year in last weekend
I got 150 miles on the VXII,and 12 on the Cushman
Now we are back to snow,ice,cold,and even more salt

I got another 5" of snow yesterday, but now back to at least the 50s for the foreseeable future.

I haven't ridden since October, when I got home on cords. My bike is parked over the service pit, waiting for me to take the rear end apart. New tire on Monday. Final drive vent plus driveshaft and swingarm maintenance -- including the famous Loren pin! Plugs/wires and whatever else it takes to get back to a smooth idle. And then ride!

I'll find out whether it's already too hot along the border, cruising out to SoCal via the Chiracahua and Organ Pipe Cactus NMs. (I wanted to do this in January.) Deanna has planned another vacation through the wine country up the coast. And then back home some way that isn't damn I-40.

I'm so-ooo ready to tour again.

First time I removed my driveshaft on my 02 I thought I lost it. It went flying across the garage when I pulled the driveshaft and I didn’t have a spare. I crawled on my hands, knees, and stomach for 2 hours. Took a break and again for another hour and found it. Now I have 2 spares. But also now I am more careful and slow pulling the driveshaft out.

What exactly does that mean? Wrap your hand around the coupling as you pull it off the splines?

Barry showed me a spare driveshaft, but I haven't looked at it in place. He said that, with warning, the pin fell into his palm. It's spring-loaded?

That little pin certainly is spring loaded when the driveshaft yoke clears the pin's lair and allows the pin to be free of confinement. I had the same experience as VoyKimmer and now I too have spares in my inventory. Take note of the flying pin event.

I put a tiny magnet in the u-joint cover to catch the pin when I pulled the drive shaft this time and it did catch the pin
I should have thought of that idea after I lost the first pin the first time I pulled the shaft
Sometimes we take a looong time to learn simple lessons.

I’m old now so slow and careful comes naturally.
