Post by cushman eagle »

I took my 1st VXII ride since my shoulder replacement
It was much more comfortable than last fall with my bad shoulder  ,71 miles and felt like going much farther, but my wife would be worried if I was gone longer :woohoo:

Already? When did you have your surgery? I'm not even supposed to be driving my car yet (but have been for two weeks, shhhh).

Mine was Feb 11th. About two weeks after yours. Only two weeks away from riding? Hmm... hell I'm not supposed to be driving the car for another nine days LOL. I can close the door with my left hand, pull the parking brake release, and just as of today can reach the headlight switch and turn it on. And here I thought I was progressing quickly, man Loren you're like Superman. Or like friends have shared their experience, doing too much too fast and ending up having to get surgery again. Since I don't want to go through that, I am trying very, very hard to not overdo it. Just doing the stretching exercises the therapist gave me and doing pendulums and letting nature take its course. So far, so good. No need for pain meds, and I've even cut way down on the Motrin and ice packs.

The therapist is very pleased with my progress, and I am not putting any more strain on my shoulder than he does. :hmm:
My driving privileges were restored Feb 17th.
I can now run the heater controls in my car or truck :woohoo: without pain, and as I found on my VXII ride, I can get to the garage door opener in the cubby hole on my right saddle bag lid to open my door, with out pain.

How are you doing with cranking the bars around at low speeds? I don't think "cleared to drive" means "cleared to ride" LOL Can you pick the bike up? As in after a drop? Can you turn the bars lock-to-lock without pain? Asking for a friend HAHAHAHA

Yeah, the total replacement was definitely the way to go. I didn't expect that.
And with handlebar therapy, your recovery is bound to move faster yet.

Denny you're killing me with the "just asking for a friend" bit.
Be smart and sensible, Loren knew not to go much farther otherwise Misd Peggy would be spitting nails, not you Neal, just a saying.
Way to go guys with the improving and therapy!
Nails, how you doing? Breathing better and sleeping better I assume!

Totally. Now moving to the next surgery -- I'm to an age when mine don't come just one at a time. When I get home (on the road for a month ... in a cage) we'll do some more testing. I'll give the VA another chance to extend their winning streak.

I had enough common sense to start with a 300lb dirtbike. :tong: (Okay, XII wasn't running anyway.)

Wow, that's awesome. I'm so looking forward to being able to ride again. I mean, I like my shiny new car, and it's just what I wanted, but it IS a cage. I went downtown yestereve, my usual route - Lincoln Drive then Kelly Drive and other than a wee bit of ZOOM on a straighter part of Lincoln Drive, it was, well... boring.

That's a great idea, Nails, starting with a smaller bike - even smaller than the one I have now, which is only about 650 lbs (ok that still makes it almost half a ton with my fat butt and gear on it).

As the Treatment Plan goes, in week 6 I am allowed to drive. We are now in week 6 as of yesterday. That's cool because I've been driving for three weeks LOL. Maybe it won't be so long until I can ride. That'll be cool, as the weather has become flat-out gorgeous here. I love Spring.

Spring is here, spring is here
Life is skittles, and life is beer
I think the most wonderful time of the year is the spring, don't you? 'Course you do.
For there's one thing that makes Spring complete for me....
Makes every Sunday a Treat for me

All... the... world is in tune
One a Spring afternoon
