Hello everyone! As of today, we have 90 registered! That's going to be a great turn out!
Just a reminder that rally registration closes on May 9 so that we can place our t-shirt order for the rally.
If you are coming, but have not sent in your registration, do it TODAY or TOMORROW!
After that, we will not accept any orders for t-shirts. We order a few extra of the most common sizes for the rally. You can only get what is available.
Have you all made your hotel reservations? If not, do it NOW! If our blocked rooms are full at Laquinta Inn, you'll have to find other lodging.
See you all soon!
Need some ideas as to the best place to buy a set of new hoses, Finally got to hear the bike run for the first time since I bought it and as I let it get to temp it blew one of the 2 lower hoses. Great that it was in the garage and not out on the road, but now I need some hoses. Any input as to the best place to find them at a good price?
Thanks
I took the hoses I needed to Napa and they matched them up for me (had to cut to length though).
They also carry a correct Radiator Cap (but these should also work):
NAPA 703-1695
Prestone RR-27
Stant 10227
Motrad T-13R
TVS 1-227B
Gates 31333
CST 7513
Balkamp 703-4773
CARQUEST 33028

Thanks, I took a ride and went to autozone, advance and NAPA and came out with 3 hoses tonight. Seeing that I also wanted to replace the thermostat and one of the breather hoses I ended up ordering them from Partszilla for 120 plus ship. Spent a bit more than the auto stores but with driving the 40 miles round trip to get parts .. ugh. So, give it 3 days ship and I should be back together for the weekend... Thanks for all the help
Use caution when just buying bulk hose cut to length. Some of the hoses on the XII have quite the bend to them and straight hose usually kinks when you try to force them in place. Its better to order the correct OEM hose (Yes Kawasaki still has them available) They are cut correctly and have the bends already in the correct spots.

I was thinking of the same thing. I picked up 3 hoses that had almost perfect matches in the bends. Went on w/o any bending at all. The rest I ordered from Revzilla and Bike Bandit
Wow, what an adventure in finding one of the houses. Turns out that Kawi is not longer making
HOSE-COOLING,LH

After a ton of calls to parts suppliers including Kawai warehouse I finally fond one at CHEAPCYCLEPARTS.COM. . In fact, unless their system never updates I ordered 2 just in case.. rep said that they showed 10 in stock.. wow not fun..
That was how I started. I did a google search and then started calling dealers and was being told that it was no longer available from Kawai. I just kept going down the search list until someone said that they had it for me.
Blowout #2
I bought a house from NAPA to replace the one that blew and thought that will I am waiting for the new hoses to arrive I would put it back together and flush the cooling system. Put the cleaning in, got it to temp and it ran great for about 10-15 mins and then blew out right house above the engine... ugh.. well, at least I have not had it on the road when this happens...
Are the hoses that rotten, that they are bursting,or do you by any chance have a combustion gas leak into the cooling system that is over pressurizing the system causing the hoses to fail.?I certainly hope that is not the case but I have seen it in my 50 years of working on farm tractor engines.Try starting it up with the radiator cap off, after you replace the bad hose, and if you see bubbling out of the neck, there is a good chance that is the cause.
Another possibility,is the radiator cap is opening at too high a pressure, and as the coolant warms up,and expands, instead of the cap opening to relieve the pressure, the hoses go instead.
Thanks. I have a new cap in the hose order as well..... Even though I added the flushing fluid and ran it through for the 10+ min's is would it be better to have the dealer flush it as well....

Just my two cents, but in the 10+ min that you ran the engine , did the fan kick on. I have a 2000 1200 and in the 80k miles have never needed to let it run over 5 min to get it up to running temp. And wouldn't do it anyway as they heat up quick. Letting any engine get too hot is not a good thing .....In my opinion there isn't much need to chemical flush the newer engines, there is no cast iron to become scaled to that point of cleaning. As Loren pointed out , do check for combustion pressure into the cooling , and be sure to flush out all the chemical flush agent, if left in will attack gaskets and seals.
Another thing you may want to check , If anyone has done the fuel filter the way the manual describes, there is a risk of pinching off the coolant recover bottle hose when putting the fuel tank back in place , so even if the cap opens there is no place for the pressure to go. That along with the pressure cap can cause some hose bursting issues.

Thanks,Gene,Pinching off the hose to the coolant recovery tank did not even cross my mind, ,but it is certainly a possibility,
I out in a new fuel filter by pulling the fuel pump out while the carbs were away.. still, may have pinched off a hose or something..
Cleaning chems.. I planned on duck taping the hose that blew and just flush the system using a hose and nothing running.. so,, seeing that I have another week or so for my hoses I have some time to take things off and check out the houses for pinching..
I just ordered these hoses from my local Kawi dealer for around $50 for three (two lower, one upper) They were in stock in Kawi's Toronto warehouse (I'm just outside of Vancouver BC).
